Really poor writing[edit]

Some of the writing (a lot actually) on this page is just bizarre, and I can't articulate precisely why it does not fit into the NPOV purview but it just feels so off, so informal. An example is this line:

Sharma has argued in his book and articles that the rise of emerging nations as a group is a "myth" that came to seize the global imagination in the unprecedented boom of the 2000s, when emerging nations actually did grow as a group.

Is it just me or is this contradictory? EvonMusk (talk) 07:46, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re assembling the same content for readability into sections[edit]

It was hectic task to re-assemble the entire Career and economic views section but I am trying to compile the content into more sensible paragraphs.RixZZFeller (talk) 15:36, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I'd like to propose changes to the article to remove promotional content. I have a conflict of interest, and am therefore not editing the article directly.

  • Change the lede to the following:

Ruchir Sharma is an Indian investor, fund manager, and columnist. He is an emerging markets investor at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and the author of four books.

  • Change the Career section as follows:

Sharma has said that he spent his early school years in Mumbai, Delhi, and Singapore. He did his undergraduate studies at the Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi, and afterward joined a securities trading company. In 1991 he launched a column called For Ex, first for The Observer, later for The Economic Times of India. His writings attracted the attention of Morgan Stanley, which hired him in its Mumbai office in 1996. In 2002 he moved to the New York office,[1] and became co-head of the emerging markets team at Morgan Stanley Investment Management in 2003. In 2006 he became head of the team.[2] In 2016, he took on an added role as Chief Global Strategist of MSIM. In November 2021, it was announced he would leave the firm January 31, 2022. [3]

  • I've created a marked-up version of the Market views section in a userspace draft in an effort to be more efficient, you can view it here.

Pinging Somedifferentstuff who put up the advertisement tag- would be grateful if you could review these changes and remove the tag. Thanks for your assistance with this, PMWoboRS (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PMW, what are your proposed changes to the lede section? (with sourcing) -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 21:25, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Somedifferentstuff, thanks for your help with this. For the lede I suggest:

Ruchir Sharma is an Indian investor, fund manager, and columnist. He was an emerging markets investor at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and the author of four books.[1]

Please let me know if this works. Thanks again, PMWoboRS (talk) 14:12, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The source you linked to (BusinessStandard) is written like an advertisement. We need better sourcing; do you have another one that is not written like an advertisement? -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 20:10, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Somedifferentstuff, my apologies. Here is a better source- https://www.vogue.in/content/ruchir-sharma-new-book-home-hes-still-single. Thanks again for your help! 47.17.105.12 (talk) 21:35, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That source is better, but it's 3 years old and mainly him answering questions about himself. Where is he a columnist? What newspapers or publications does he contribute to? -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 23:35, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Somedifferentstuff, Ruchir is a columnist for The Financial Times and his articles are published regularly every two weeks. Please find a link here to his articles- https://www.ft.com/ruchir-sharma. in full transparency, Ruchir has an announcement coming out tomorrow and we would very much like to have this tag removed before it comes out if at all possible. As you can see, I am willing to work with you until you are satisfied but if you would be so kind as to consider removing it for the the time being, we would certainly greatly appreciate the gesture. In the interim, of course, do let me know what other changes you would like to see occur and I assure you it will be done. Thank you again and eagerly waiting your reply. With my warmest regards. 47.17.105.12 (talk) 01:03, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are you the same person I was interacting with above? -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 13:23, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Somedifferentstuff, yes, so strange, not sure how I got signed out and didn’t realize I wasn’t logged in, my apologies. Let me know if you need anything else from me to move this ahead. Thanks again, PMWoboRS (talk) 16:14, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We can remove the header tag, but leave the others in place until we're finished here. Is he currently a fund manager? or should that be past tense? -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 18:55, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Somedifferentstuff, thank you! Very much appreciated. Yes, he is a fund manager, and as of this announcement which was made earlier today, he will become the Chairman of Rockefeller International as of Monday- https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/10/business/ruchir-sharma-rockefeller-capital.html. Hope this helps. PMWoboRS (talk) 22:18, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That looks like a good source; unfortunately I can't look at because it's behind a pay wall. -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 11:01, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
somedifferentstuff, here are some additional sources for this: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/ruchir-sharma-joins-rockefeller-capital-as-md-and-chairman/articleshow/89485730.cms, https://indianexpress.com/article/business/rockefeller-capital-hires-ruchir-sharma-as-chairman-7766605/. Hi. I'd like to revisit the above conversation and propose an update to the lede as follows:

Ruchir Sharma is an investor, author, fund manager and columnist for the Financial Times. He is the Chairman of Rockefeller International, and was an emerging markets investor at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.[1][2][3]

Pinging Somedifferentstuff as he was involved in this previously.

Thanks for your help, PMWoboRS (talk) 15:28, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@PMWoboRS and Somedifferentstuff: I was wondering about the progress on this edit request. Some of the changes appear to be added but I'm not sure everything was. I'd love to hear what was signed off on and what is still pending review so that we can perhaps cut down on some backlog. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 01:22, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Amadeus1999 thanks for checking in! Yes, I think this request has been covered. If anything else comes up, I'll create a new request. All the best, PMWoboRS (talk) 18:01, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for responding. I've marked the request as answered so it doesn't clog up the logs or attract further editors for edits. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 18:10, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reassessment[edit]

I've reassessed this article as currently being a Start-level article, since it's very clearly not a Stub anymore. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 18:15, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
