Category:Croatian Americans?[edit]

Does anyone have any sources to justify Mofford's inclusion in this category? I have found sources showing her parents were Austrian immigrants that came to the Unites States in 1912 [e.g. Gruson, Lindsey (February 7, 1988). "Jokes Aside, She is Acting Governor". New York Times. p. 26.], but nothing to indicate any particular ethnic group or part of Austria–Hungary as their place of origin. --Allen3 ^talk 20:17, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on it. There is another Perica family that emigrated around the same time from Dalmatia, Hungary-Austria. Dalmatia of course being in Croatia.

Your argument is about as reliable as assuming everyone in the United States named Smith (surname) is Mormon just because Joseph Smith founded the LDS Church. Looking at the article for Perica shows that the name is ued by both Croats and Serbs, two ethnic groups that have lived in close proximity for centuries. Furthermore, given the level of disruption in the Balkans around the time Mofford's parents emigrated (e.g. Albanian Revolt of 1912 and First Balkan War) it is not surprising that multiple people fled the area. Just because some other immigrants, who have no known relation to Mofford, had the same last name as Mofford's parents does not mean that the all came from the same town or even share a common ethnicity. --Allen3 ^talk 00:00, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
