On May 6, 2008, following the actions of an unidentified group of fans, and the apathetic reaction of referees and representatives of the Polish Union of Football, a nationwide scandal erupted. After converting a penalty kick for his team, Bialystok, in a critical match against league rival Legia Warszawa, a group of Legia fans hung a poster on the concourse, which declared, "Roger, nigdy nie bedziesz Polakiem," ("Roger, you will never be a Pole") Although it was evident that the referee and PZPN officials noticed the offensive message, which also included a Neo-Nazist Celtic cross, they refused to halt the match. Legia eventually won the match, 2-1, securing second place in the overall rankings. Following the game, the team apologized for the incident, and countered it by displaying signs stating, "No to racism," during the team's final match of the season —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.152.147.221 (talk • contribs) 04:23, May 9, 2008
