Filmography[edit]

Having the films by some directors and not others it totally annoying!

Please just make them all chronological!

Just make one table with a sort feature: "by director"

If that is the way you want to view it.

Cinematography Consultant[edit]

I found out through the end credits of the film Rango that Roger Deakins served as a ‘cinematography consultant’. Should that be included in Deakins’ list of selected filmography? - Theironminer (talk) 00:46, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yesterday's edits[edit]

Came to look in on the article, where I'd contributed long in the past. Saw that a nickname of "Matt Campbell" had been added, and having never heard of this, did a bit of poking around, then removed it as likely vandalism (by a fan of the active, young film greensman by that name?). Then, was drawn to the awards section, which was empty except for a wikilink, which was nonstandard, and which, it seemed to me, did a disservice to the article and its subject. In rectifying that (moving content from lead and other parts of article to summarize his rewards and recognition), I discovered (a) that the BAFTA information is incomplete—see next Talk section—both in statement and in sourcing, and (b) that the lead description of his awards was both odd in chronology, and missing at least one source. The remainder of the edits yesterday were to:

  • make the article more standard in structure (in anticipation of a GA review),
  • begin rectifying the BAFTA issue, and to
  • do a "proposed", first-pass lead edit.

The first of these included naming of sections in standard fashion and/or moving them to the places they most often appear in bios (e.g., §Personal life, to near end of article). The third of these was the lead edit, and was the most important work that was done. It included:

  • moving career awards to the end of lead,
  • moving citations for awards into the main body (to make whole lead consistent in this regard),
  • noting two statements which were not fully supported by sources in the lead (BAFTA awards, and award as alumnus).

Please, be gentle—as a non-logging editor I am often peremptorily reverted, even for high quality edits—and feel free to edit and discuss anything I did here, in the spirit of this great cinematographer (and thoroughly decent bloke). Cheers. 12.205.207.2 (talk) 19:14, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Text regarding incorrectly identified further issue.
Further Matthew Campbell issue identified. Look at greensman Campbell's IMDb page here, and note the IMDB number (3293700). Then, place that number into markup language, like so, {{IMDb name|3293700}}, and this is what you see: Roger Deakins at IMDb. Odd. Taking this to admins at WP and IMDb. Cheers. 12.205.207.2 (talk) 19:14, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Skip this. It is a markup function issue. If one does not include a third field in the IMDb template markup, where "Matthew Campbell" here fills that third field:
  • {{IMDb name|3293700|Matthew Campbell}}
then the IMDb name template message coding acts to state the name of the immediately associated article page name as the IMDB name, like so:
Versus how it should look, with the third field filled:
So, the original, observed infobox vandalism is still in play. This second apparently nefarious act is nothing more than an artifact of the template message's coding. It still could be gamed, but I have no evidence that it has been done at present. 12.205.207.2 (talk) 20:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Facts needed in article[edit]

This article is en route to achieving GA status. Before trying that, here are a list of things needing to be done, and facts needing to be found (sourced). As you add to this, please date. When done, please add checkmark as done.

Personal life section[edit]

Why is this placed after the "Filmography" section? Filmographies and other tables are usually placed lower, just before lists of "Awards" and "References? In fact, am struggling to find any examples of where "Personal life" is pushed to the bottom, away from the other prose sections, like this. Thanks. I will look back and correct this—it may not need to be so far down, but earlier, if I recall correctly, it was quite far up. Give me until tomorrow? 2601:246:C700:19D:EDF4:ADF1:A260:BF0F (talk) 23:02, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
