Incorrect information in the Trivia section[edit]

The paragraph in the Trivia section about black boxers losing in every Rocky film is blatantly false. Apollo Creed did not lose in Rocky and Mason Dixon did not lose in Rocky Balboa. They both won their fights. This is not open to interpretation; it's right there in the films. Furthermore, George Washington Duke was not in an actual fight in Rocky V. Stop adding this completely false information to the Trivia section. RPrinter 21:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

@RPrinter: those edits fall into the vandalism category. Furthermore, this is not a fan-site and so there shouldn't even be a trivia section.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 06:19, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky Wiki[edit]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rocky iii poster.jpg[edit]

Image:Rocky iii poster.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Timeline[edit]

Is there any reference to what is written in the timeline section. Well, Rocky I and II are plane. But as I recall Rocky III is set three years after Rocky II (while featuring the 1982 Date on Mickey´s Tombstone) and on Rocky IV are coflicting statements in the film. I suggest to expand the section and explain some of the problems with the placement of the films in a consistent timeline. 87.174.220.150 (talk) 19:54, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Characters[edit]

I'm letting the editors of this page know that I have tagged Clubber, Mason, Ivan, Mickey, Duke, and Apollo with multiple tags (original research, in-universe perspective), but most importantly the notability tag. Right now, not a single character page asserts any form of notability and just being in the Rocky movies, even in multiple ones, does not mean they are notable. They need to meet the general notability guideline, which none do. That guideline requires "significant coverage" and any of those articles that happen to have decent sources only have passing mentionings (which the GNG states is not enough). The articles will need to be cleaned up and notability established, or else they will need to be merged. If you cannot establish notability, then I would suggest cleaning up the articles and creating Characters of Rocky or List of characters in the Rocky film series (or some variation) to house all of them.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 13:18, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would endorse a characters article. Let's set up a time frame so we can follow up on this since some discussions will taper off with no real change. Erik (talk | contribs) 13:52, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think would be a realistic time frame given the fact that this would be for six character articles? A few weeks, a month?  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 14:13, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Two weeks sounds good, but it's very likely that the articles will remain unchanged. We should strive to be without the "Characters" row in Template:Rocky (with the main character going into the "Related articles" row). Are we wanting to have a separate characters article or build on the "Characters" section of this film series article? Erik (talk | contribs) 14:21, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you'd have to look at it from the angle that the list would include these 6 characters, plus Adrian, Rocky Jr., Paulie, and probably even Marie (though I'm skeptical of the latter), given their major status in the film series. Do you think this page could/should hold about 10 or 12 characters in such detail? BTW, I'm fine with the 2 week mark.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 17:33, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Erik, it's been over a month. Nothing has changed. How would you like to proceed? List of characters article?  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 01:44, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chart[edit]

User:Betty Logan you have reverted my edits twice and so I'm bringing the conversation here for input. The characters should be listed as they appear in the movies, whether that's with boxing 'ring names' or full legal names - it needs to be added. Along with this, Creed II is in active development and I had added what characters are confirmed to appear in the movie. You need to discuss here, why you wish to exclude those elements.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 17:11, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The characters should ideally be listed as they are billed in the films if this is a cast table, and if not they should match the WP:COMMONAME of the character articles. Wikipedia does not adopt an WP:INUNIVERSE perspective. For example, Adrian is never called "Adrian Pennino Balboa" at any point in the film. She is called "Adrian Pennino" and "Adrian Balboa" and just credited as "Adrian" in the films. Rocky himself is only ever credited as "Rocky" and "Rocky Balboa"; either of these would suffice in the cast table: "Rocky" would match the billing and "Rocky Balboa" would avoid the use of a piped link. Something like 'Adonis "Hollywood Donnie" Johnson Creed' is extraneous detail when the character is never credited as such. Also, Creed 2 has only been announced and arguably should not be added to the table until the film meets WP:NF. Until that occurs we cannot assume that the sequel will go ahead. There is a reason the table has been set up as it is; I didn't create the table but I agree with the layout and current labelling. Betty Logan (talk) 17:22, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For the sake of transparency I have requested clarification at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Film#Cast_tables_in_film_series_articles regarding films that have not entered production. If the upshot is that the film should be added I will restore your edit myself with the proper billing. Betty Logan (talk) 17:48, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Is there a reason this article is using Infobox film rather than Infobox media franchise? - SummerPhDv2.0 20:57, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Franchise not a film series[edit]

As @SummerPhDv2.0: pointed out in December 2019... this article has flaws. One of those follows: This discussion has come up before but never gone anywhere. This article is currently incorrectly titled. The Rocky film series ended with Rocky Balboa. The Creed film series started with Creed and continues. The pair of these film series are parts of the Rocky franchise which also includes the broadway musical (even though it's atrocious) as well as the television series that Stallone states is in development. This article needs to be renamed, m8s.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 06:23, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are adopting an WP:INUNIVERSE perspective. The Creed films are effectively a spin-off of the Rocky films, and hence a part of the series. A franchise is not defined by fictional continuities but by licensing and different media streams. So for this page to be renamed I would expect it to include some other form of media besides the films. Betty Logan (talk) 14:03, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please note I questioned the use of a particular infobox. I was not calling for the article to be changed from an article about the films to an article about something potentially much broader in scope. - SummerPhDv2.0 20:38, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
