Castle Town[edit]

Although the Rochdale Castle gave its name to Castleton, Greater Manchester, it's now in Rochdale. Rochdale was originally a geographical name applying to the broad valley-parish that encompassed Castleton. As Rochdale became a settlement, town and then borough, Castleton lost territory, meaning the Castle which gave that township its name lay outside of the administrative/conventional boundary.

I'll have to dig out the old Rochdale books and get something sourced up, but Google maps provides simple verification, and there might be a straightforward source elsewhere online. --Jza84 | Talk 15:55, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
