Notability[edit]

Hi, please fill in the company infobox and add the missing references. It's very very scarce and rough, but if V-V says that's ok, then that's ok. --Sigmundur (talk) 13:54, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Apparently it wasn't good enough, it has been deleted. Some hints follow. --109.108.18.196 (talk) 14:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion was made by an administrator because there was no ASSERTION of significance. A7 says that "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines." and additionally that "It is irrelevant whether the claim of notability within the article falls below the notability guidelines. If the claim is credible, the A7 tag can not be applied" in the footnote. An easy fix would be to demonstrate that Rightware has an impact in the industry, working in the front-line cutting edge of mobile and embedded graphics, e.g. being part of Collada working group co-developing GLES standards.

Another things is notability. When presenting a company, special care has to be taken for a matter-of-fact approach to avoid blatant self-promotion. The problem of the article as-is isn't so much advertising, but there should be more about why Rightware is interesting and important and (proportionately) less about what its products are. Quote:

  • The barometer of notability is whether people independent of the topic itself (or of its manufacturer, creator, author, inventor, or vendor) have actually considered the topic notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial works of their own that focus upon it – without incentive, promotion, or other influence by people connected to the topic matter.

This is obviously fulfilled by independent benchmark studies such as [1].

One argument for why there should be a page about Rightware is simply: because there are pages about smaller, newer and less influential companies (TODO: find examples). My two cents. I'm going to poke the said admin for a request for comment. --109.108.18.196 (talk) 14:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Right now, there is only one source in the article that's not by Rightware itself (#3), and that also looks to be a press-release-type article (although it's in Finnish, so I can't be sure). See WP:V. NawlinWiki (talk) 18:17, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rightware is involved in the design of automotive equipments. Due to the worldwide distribution of navigation systems I think it is far from being a non-influent company at least for many future car owners (even if they are not aware of that). It is member of the GENIVI Alliance.

However I agree that the article should be rewritten to be more neutral. Teuxe (talk) 14:24, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
