Name in infobox[edit]

I think the name in the infobox should be "Richard Rogers" as that's how he's known professionally as an architect. However, "The Lord Rogers" is simply incorrect as his correct title is "The Lord Rogers of Riverside" – the former would refer to someone else. If anyone decides to change it again, please at least use his correct title! JRawle (Talk) 21:39, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sue Rogers[edit]

Is Sue Rogers, as mentioned as one of the designers of the Pompidou Centre on the appropriate article, Richard Rogers' first wife? It is noted on here that Rogers has a second wife. If this is so, should this be noted on this article? - Erebus555 18:19, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

She is not mentioned as being involved in the Pompidou Centre project, according to books I've seen on the building. Worth noting her name is actually Su Rogers (no "e"). She was Rogers' professional partner after the break-up of Team 4 and Richard and Su Rogers (as the practice was known) designed the Spender House - not Piano & Rogers, which was the practice Richard Rogers subsequently formed with Renzo Piano.
I've edited this and other sub-sections in the Selected Projects section to reflect the actual practice names in the right sequence. Is it okay to remove the "factual accuracy is disputed" banner? Architypist (talk) 09:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lord Rogers?[edit]

Just seen him captioned on BBC News as "Lord Rogers", and that's the name I've seen him called in Private Eye. Is it a "funny" nickname (like referring to David Cameron as "Lord Cameron"), or is he technically a Lord since he sits in the House of Lords? Dave-ros (talk) 17:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is "technically" Lord Rogers of Riverside. This is due to him having been created a Baron, as is shown in the opening line of the article. Professionally, he is just known as Richard Rogers [1], hence that is the name shown in the infobox.
Incidentally, the BBC are hopeless at getting titles right. If you saw him on TV and they put up just "Lord Rogers", that was wrong, as it should be "Lord Rogers of Riverside". If, however, it was referring to him later in the text of an article on the website, after it had already introduced him earlier on, then Lord Rogers would be acceptable. I suppose we should be glad the BBC didn't call him "Lord Richard Rogers". JRawle (Talk) 21:05, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Jesse McCartney?[edit]

Prince Charles controversy?[edit]

Rogers' disagreements with the Prince date back many years - certainly to the controversy over the National Gallery extension (1982)! Rogers has been a consistent critic of the Prince's involvement in the planning process. Lord Rogers had this to say about a court-case: "The way in which the Prince of Wales intervened in helping to get the original Chelsea Barracks planning application withdrawn was wrong. I hope that this judgment demonstrates that similar interventions should be considered far more seriously before they are made in the future."...I do not understand whether he was or was not directly involved in this court case (the Candy brothers were). I do however feel, that if I would pen a such letter to some influental people, with my legitimate points of view, but a more legitimate right to express it, the plan would go ahead. If it went tits up (I might be old fashioned if saying bugger all), none should have the right to blame me for it. If the project is capitalisticaly correct, where are the other investors who would go in instead of a bunch of Quataris? I dont see how a personally written letter by Prince Charles is enough to quagmire a such project, if it was ready to go. They must have jumped in long ago.

Actually, it is a different Guardian article on the same matter which in the last section states the following: "• This article was amended on 17 May 2010. The original said that the target of Prince Charles's "carbuncle" remark was a Richard Rogers design for the National Gallery extension. Re. Millennium Dome[edit]

Rogers' practice designed the Dome with engineers Buro Happold - Rogers was not exactly an "advocate" of the project! Although the Millennium Exhibition was not generally well regarded, the much criticised cost was the result of spending on the contents, not the building - the Dome has since re-emerged as a hugely successful events/concert venue, the O2. Newcastle[edit]

I've removed the sentence about Newcastle as I could find no reference to an actual masterplan or a competition. It's not listed in the RSHP Masterplan section of the website. The only references to Newcastle I can find refer to draft plans which seem to have got nowhere: see http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2000/sep/13/regeneration.socialexclusion for one such. Since Rogers became notable in Uk wikipedia censors that he is Italian born? it is a meaningless motivation. Richard is not only born in Italy, but he had an Italian passport and he did Italian military national service. Hallo, it is me again. :-) It is not censorship, it is a guideline, called WP:OPENPARA. You can write that he has an italian passport, that he did military service in Italy, that he liked ribollita instead of pudding, etc., where you want in the article, except in the first sentence. This guideline applies (or better, it should apply) to all the biographies in wikipedia. If you don't like it, open a thread on the corresponding talk page.
