Untitled[edit]

I added a reference to the quotation "Writing is easy--you just open a vein and bleeed," which is commonly attributed to a variety of writers but whose source may well be Smith, although he did not use those exact words. The reference is to what amounts to a blog, but the site is well-researched and has been cited by numerous news organizations, so I think it counts as verifiable. David Halberstam[edit]

Saying that David Halberstam was a sportswriter is sort of like saying that Mark Twain was a newspaper columnist. Yes, he did some sportswriting, but is far better know for his works on the Vietnam War like The Best and the Brightest. The quote is all the more meaningful because it came from someone who was far more than just a sportswriter suggesting that Smith, who was one, was good enough to transcend sports. 2600:1004:B165:D884:F4A4:D361:F95A:7461 (talk) 00:29, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
