Page move?

Due to the extreme similarity between the title of this article and Raúl Ruiz, I feel it might it be a good idea to move this article to Raul Ruiz (congressman), or Raul Ruiz (politician). Any thoughts? I'm not sure if I'm authorized to move pages, so if there's an agreement, please go ahead and do it yourself. Delaywaves • talk 23:08, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

redistricting?

Mary Bono Mack apparently currently represents the 45th district rather than 36th, but ran for (re-)election in the 36th. I guess this is a redistricting thing, but I haven't chased down the details and have to leave soon, so maybe someone else can straighten it out. I don't know to what extent MBM's old district overlaps the current 36th, so I don't know how accurate it is to have called her the incumbent in the election. 67.119.3.105 (talk) 03:57, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

ACA vote

User:Cfredkin recently added a sentence about Ruiz's vote in May 2013 not to overturn the ACA. The user has been adding this or similar language to many articles about politicians. I reverted it here and at several other articles as a trivial vote, because the same issue has come before the House more than 40 times, and the individual politician's vote on this one was not determinative. I felt this kind of item was particularly inappropriate here, when it became the ONLY vote listed in Ruiz's article. On other articles, where there was already a listing of the person's positions or votes and this vote was placed in context, I have not reverted it. Cfredkin promptly reverted my reversion (although per WP:BRD they should have left my reversion in place and come to the talk page). Rather than getting into an edit war I am bringing the issue here for discussion. Is it appropriate for the "Tenure" section to list only one vote, and that on a proposed-to-death bill on which his vote did not make any difference? --MelanieN (talk) 19:42, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

This is the only reference to a vote that demonstrates the Representative's stance on the ACA in the article. It was significant enough to be referenced by reliable secondary sources. The fact that the issue has been voted on multiple times also attests to its significance. However I obviously don't think it would be appropriate to record all 40+ votes in the article. The fact that it's the only content in the Tenure section is irrelevant. Something would have to be first, and it doesn't preclude other content from being added.CFredkin (talk) 20:09, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

I agree with MelanieN, the sentence about the ACA vote doesn't help the article as far as I can tell. Those votes were mostly on party lines, so since Ruiz is a Democrat, it's not really news that he voted against repeal. It would be more interesting if he had voted in favor of repeal. The Hill reporting is pretty marginal so I think it's ok to take out the sentence. 98.207.66.10 (talk) 02:11, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. The previous way of doing the disambiguation is minimal (one name having an accent which the other lacks). I don't see any explicit endorsement of that system in the policy. For example WP:PRECISION doesn't seem to mention it. Muboshgu points out that it's unlikely our readers would just happen to remember which one has an accent. Some English-speakers may not be aware that the letter u can carry an accent and we should be designing a system that is quickly recognizable to most people. Only User:Kauffner seems to give their complete endorsement to the current system; the other participants are open to some change. I've done a partial solution which may please only User:Philosopher but it does make the film director the primary meaning, as two people wanted. The page view statistics favor the director over the politician by about 3:1 at present. Raul Ruiz is moved to Raul Ruiz (politician), the director is at Raúl Ruiz (director), Raul Ruiz and Raúl Ruiz are changed to be redirects to the film director, and there is now a page called Raúl Ruiz (disambiguation). Hatnotes to the DAB are added to the politician and the director. The football player Raúl Ruiz Matarín is also in the DAB. EdJohnston (talk) 00:07, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

– The only thing distinguishing these two articles is an accent mark, and it's quite possible that Congressman Ruiz's name includes that same accent.   • Support It's impossible to remember which Ruiz has the accent mark and which doesn't, and as Delaywaves says, it's possible they both do. If the politician, newly elected to US Congress, eventually overtakes the filmmaker in page views, then it can be moved back without the disambiguator at that time. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:33, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Putting "Raúl Ruiz is" into Google Books produces mainly results like Arthur A. Natella "Latin American Popular Culture" 2008 Page 151 "Raúl Ruiz is the distinguished Chilean director of such films as White Pigeon (Palomita blanca, 1973). Working in France he made Comedy of Innocence (Comedie de l'innocence in 2000, and Time Regained (Le temps retrouvé) in 1999. and so on.

Birth

The IP who continues to edit this article to say that Ruiz was born in Mexico needs to find a source to substantiate that claim per WP:verifiability. CFredkin (talk) 22:14, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
