Physical Education[edit]

While right now the R score is not calculated for PE courses, starting next fall it will be and it will also count towards the general R score looked at by universities. I could not a find an official reference to this on the web or elsewhere, but it is a well known fact throughout cegep students and teachers.

Is this a well known fact throughout cegep students? See, I'm a cegep student, and very often, find myslef discussing R scores and grades in general, and while everyone knows that P.E. classes don't count towards the global R score, no one I know is aware of this coming change. mj_sklar 16:07, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

R score calculation update[edit]

I found this article a few weeks ago. I thought someone would catch on. I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning? Callmemirela 🍁 talk 01:08, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Updated documents on the R score[edit]

Hello! As of October 2020 the Bureau de Coopération Interuniversitaire as released a new set of documents containing information on the R score. I will be reading these documents and attempting to integrate any new information. If other editors of this page notice new information in these documents, feel free to mention it here to begin a discussion about how to integrate it. Replace "Criticism" section with a better-sourced "Reception" section[edit]

The Wikipedia policy on including criticism allows for the inclusion of a "Criticism" section under certain circumstances, but I don't believe the section suits this article. R scores are criticized by many students worried about their prospects in university, but the system has both benefits and drawbacks. (For example, R scores replace the need for large standardized tests like the SAT or ACT, which have many problems of their own.) I'd like to propose renaming the section to "Reception" or something along those lines, and including both positive and negative viewpoints.

In addition to that, "firsthand experience" is not generally considered fair game for the encyclopedia. WP:NPOV instructs editors to include opinions, but not those of the editors. Wikipedia also has provisions against original research. The section seems fairly well-written and the critique is valid (as a student in the cégep system, I know a lot about R score woes), but it might find a better home in a Medium piece or blog post. Restructure article to include more information[edit]

Hello! It's me again. Considering this article could include a lot more information, I propose that it be restructured. After looking at a few articles on standardized tests and statistical methods, I think the article would be best served by the following sections in this order:

  • Function - What is the R score used for? Why is it used that way? How does this compare to other systems?
  • Calculation - How is it calculated?
  • Logistics - Who calculates the R score? When is it calculated? How is it communicated?
  • History - Expand current section. Include details on suspension of the R score during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Perception - Expand section "Criticism". How do people see the R score? What views (positive or negative) are prevalent about it?
  • See also - Links to other pages on education in Quebec.
