Untitled[edit]

I was given the task to create a page for the company I work for, R.L.Polk & Co. The previous entry describing Ralph Lane Polk in wiki was flawed in its description of the company so I am creating another page that outlines everything about the company. This page will not be finished quickly because I still have more things to add to it. Please do not delete this page. I am not marketing the company or trying to sell something, I am just trying to describe what the company does to people who are interested in knowing and for other employees within the company, and for Stephen R. Polk himself (the CEO of the company). Please consider my explanation and do not delete it because it is still a work in progress.

advice[edit]

First thing to do is to read our Business FAQ. As reviewing administrator: I think the article clearly has an informative core, and should not be deleted--and its a major company in the field. As for style, start by never saying "our", and writing impersonally, and avoid adjectives ofimportance--just describe insuch as way as to make the importance clear. And the article needs and must have 3rd party independent reliable published sources, print or online (but not press releases), talking about the company. Business journals of established reputation are a likely place to find these. Rember, this is an encyclopedia, and is written for the general public--not for people in the company--it is not your web site. If you want to write about the founder extensively, try a separate article if you can find the suitable sources.

And, most important, do not include any material form an external web site without following in detail the WP:COPYRIGHT proceedure. Note you cannot just give us permission to use it here, but release it permanently to the entire world, for any purpose, even commercial. In generaL, text from a web site is likely to not have the suitable tone, but you need to license the picture if you want to use it. If you are willing to license it, a page or title page from one of your handbooks might also work well as an illustration. DGG (talk) 00:00, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

follow-up[edit]

DGG, I removed the "our" words off the cite and reworded the text. Most of the text is off the main website but I altered it so it does not completely match the website. Now, I did pull the picture I have off of the website but I'm still shaky on how to get it licensed correctly.

This is the first Wikipedia page I have ever made and I appreciate all your help DGG. If there is anything else that is wrong with the article, just point it out and it will be fixed.

Oh DGG, I sent an email to the Polk website asking for permission to use the picture on the website, so I'll be hearing from them soon too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alkaa00 (talkcontribs) 17:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: 1:27 pm November 4, 2008: The article is again put up for speedy deletion. I removed the picture and I am currently waiting for a response for permission to use the company logo on the page. I don't understand why the article is being hit by speedy deletions everyday? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alkaa00 (talkcontribs) 18:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
