Letter of the Mukhtar Ali to Israeli ministery of minorities, September 15, 1948[edit]

"We the people of Qumya, in the district of Baysan, are currently staying in Nazareth as refugees. Our departure from the village was not on the basis of enmity or dispute between us and our Jewish neighbors in Ein Harod and Tel Yosef, but to distance ourselves from the evils. We moved to Baysan and upon its conquering by the defense forces we departed with the military governor to the village of Taybe, leaving behind all our belongings and furniture and taking nothing with us. We hereby request your honor to grant us part of our crops so we may make a living of it, as well as the return of our furniture, which we left in Baysan, and our return to the village Qumya or any other place you see fit for our temporary settlement." Letter of the military governor of Nazareth regarding the people of Qumya, October 3, 1948[edit]

"1. The Arabs of Qumya have stayed in Nazareth since the time of Qawuqji; and it was they who chose to stay in Nazareth that was then held by the enemy and refused to stay in Taybe which was within the state of Israel; and the kind treatment they received from the governor of Baysan at the time should not sing their praises. 2. Regarding their return to Qumya nothing has changed to this day. 3. I have no objection that they be moved from Nazareth to a proper place for temporary or permanent settlement through a designated state institution, as part of the general arrangement for refugees."
