Merge with Quebecor?[edit]

There's an awful lot of overlap between this page and Quebecor. It seems (based on what's written at Quebecor) that the parent company's only asset is its 54%+ stake in Quebecor Media; the only difference I can discern is that the two organizations have some but not perfect overlap in the membership of their boards of directors. This prompts the question of whether Quebecor Inc. has any notability apart from its relationship to Quebecor Media. If not, it should be a section in the Quebecor Media page (Quebecor Media should be a redirect to Quebecor). It doesn't make sense to have two articles listing the exact same assets. As things change, editors will end up editing one page and not the other, resulting in an uneven portrait of Quebecor. Thoughts? ``` t o l l ` b o o t h ` w i l l i e `` $1.25 PLEASE ``` 03:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I replied at Talk:Quebecor. Better to consolidate the discussion in one place. -- P.T. Aufrette (talk) 16:46, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

move/rename 12 April 2012[edit]

Per a request and after finding a news report [1] I edited the article to indicate the subject has decided to place accents in its company name. I moved the article so searches under the old styling will work as before. LessHeard vanU (talk) 19:08, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think this good-faith move is a bit premature and likely unnecessary. From the second paragraph of your cite:
The owner of the TVA television network and cable company Vidéotron will make a formal proposal to shareholders at its May 9 annual meeting to add a French version of the corporation’s name for use in its home province. (boldface is mine)
Clearly the change has not happened yet; it is up for vote next month. Even if/when it does pass the board of directors shareholder vote, note that the current plan is that this will be an additional corporate name solely for use within the province of Quebec, where the predominant language is French. Presumably the corporation's name in English-speaking provinces would remain unchanged. From the fourth paragraph of your cite:
Quebecor will continue to use its unaccented name in business outside Quebec.
I realize that the corporate headquarters are in Montreal, legally a French-speaking jurisdiction, but Quebecor (through Sun Media) is a major player in English-language media as well. As this is the English Wikipedia, I think it would make the most sense to use the name that the corporation uses in relation to its English properties, but I will bow to consensus. ``` t o l l ` b o o t h ` w i l l i e `` $1.25 PLEASE ``` 20:58, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Observe the difference between these two official company press releases:
http://www.quebecor.com/en/comm/media-advisory-quebecor-inc-annual-meeting-shareholders
http://www.quebecor.com/fr/comm/avis-aux-m%C3%A9dias-assembl%C3%A9e-annuelle-des-actionnaires-de-quebecor-inc
Both use 'Quebecor Inc.' (unaccented) as the parent company name. The English one uses 'Quebecor Media' for the subsidiary and the French one uses both 'Quebecor Média' and 'Québecor Média' (accented). Graphic logos on both pages are unaccented. I don't think the company has changed its English name. I'll give it a week or so before moving the page back in case someone else has other information, or in case the shareholder vote changes things. ``` t b w i l l i e ` $1.25 ` 18:09, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
