Legal Considerations[edit]

"The chairman was Feargal Sharkey, previously with the Undertones." Following the removal of the reference to the Task Force in the previous sentence, it is not clear what he was chairman of.--QuestingVole 15:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Total re-write[edit]

I have totally re-written the article to make it more multi-cultural. Perhaps this article needs a new name. If you don't like, simply "un-do". Ogg (talk) 11:19, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original research[edit]

This article has some good content, but the "Etiquette" section (among other bits) appears almost entirely individual OR, with statements about affecting an Irish accent, etc. Anyone object to removing the Etiquette section until actual refs or reputable sources appear, as well as any other similarly iffy content? It's not so much original research as a personal view of how sessions are performed. I don't agree with it, and I play in sessions every week. Hohenloh⁺ 01:22, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Choosing an instrument[edit]

"Mandolins, citterns and bouzoukis are welcome in moderation." I don't agree with this. I play mandolin and guitar mainly on irish tradional sessions but also on sing alongs and pub sessions that "occur" with any acoustic songs and tunes from celtic to Beatles or blues. I never saw someone complain about bouzoukis or mandolins. The problem with two or more guitarists is, that these play chords. There is not only one way of backing with chords, so in general, they will often play different chords at the same time. This can lead to dissonat intervals and spoil the sound of the tune. Bouzoukis play less thirds, which leads to less problems. Mandolinists are welcome, because they play the melody. And cisterns may be very rare, for I've hardly seen one in all the years. --Doppelhals (talk) 18:13, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's not about the music[edit]

Where I'm from (Nothern England) the term 'session' refers to an extended period of drinking - no instruments involved. See Drinking culture#Session drinking. Need to hatnote appropriately. Giant Snowman 13:43, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
