Why?[edit]

This article is entirely redundant to Major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. It covers the same material in the same fashion largely using the same sources. It's a well established fact that outside of gridiron football, the US and Canada share major and minor leagues with almost no regard for the border whatsoever. I see no reason for this article to exist at all, and consider it a good faith but wasted effort that will only result in an unneeded WP:FORK situation. oknazevad (talk) 03:45, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

About one third of this article focuses on major leagues; the rest focuses on other top-level but non major leagues, as well as minor professional leagues. The article is still a work in progress. Give it a few days, I intend to add more content re other non-major professional leagues, so the proportion of overlap will continue to diminish over time. Also, on a semi-regular basis, editors try to add sections re WNBA, AFL, MLL, etc. into the Major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada article, as the edit histories and talk page discussions show. This suggests that editors see a need for an article that includes a discussion of those leagues. The article re the big major leagues is not the right forum, but this article is. I don't think there's a problem with an article on professional leagues beyond the major leagues, but we already have List of professional sports teams in the United States and Canada. As stated above, American and Canadian sports cross the border regularly. All the "major" leagues besides football have at least one team in Canada, and minor league hockey and baseball cross regularly. I'm not sure how to respond to this comment. The article you cite is a list of sports teams, whereas this article contains a discussion of sports leagues. The two articles are certainly related, but there is significant content in this article that does not appear in the list you mention. CUA 27 (talk) 05:08, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion began within 24 hours of the article's creation, while it was still very much a work in progress; the article was substantially expanded during the first few days of its existence, and the discussion above quickly ended. So the two-month old discussion above regarding a very different version of the article is quite stale. Looking at the current version of the article, it is clear that the majority of the content is not covered by the article re major leagues. Also, next time you propose deleting an article, it would be best to notify significant contributors to the article of your action. CUA 27 (talk) 15:19, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

American Geography (regarding Puerto Rico and the NASL)[edit]

The sub-section on the NASL minor soccer league states that it comprises 8 teams: 1 in Canada, 6 in the USA and 1 in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is of course within the United States, so I plan to correct the article in this regard. Please don't comment here. Comments are always welcome (that's why I am posting my intention here first), but please consolidate them by using an identical section in the NASL article's Talk page.

Major League Rugby Average Salary[edit]

The stated (and uncited) average salary from MLR players is mathematically impossible. For the 2019 season the salary cap was $350,000 per team with an average 20-player roster means the absolute maximum the average salary could be is $17,500 and that's assuming every team is paying up to maximum salary cap. @Oranjelo100: Thanks for raising this issue on the talk page. This article, similar to Major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada has a very specific scope in terms of sports and leagues covered. It looks like User:Oknazevad has also expressed similar thoughts in their edits. I'm not saying information about team tennis doesn't belong on wikipedia, simply that you are trying to add it to the wrong article. If you would like to add information regarding tennis, or any other sport predominantly considered an individual sport, I would suggest Sports in the United States as an article with a broader scope where it might be a better fit. Blogspot cite[edit]

Just dropping in a note here that the Blogspot article cited as a ref for the AUDL attendance is because it quotes the relevant parts of the following cite (SV Business Journal), whose content is paywalled. It is not an authority on its own, but SVBJ should be regarded as a valid cite.
