2006 Brazilian prison riot[edit]

From a social political point of view a very important Brazilian prison riot from 2006 is not listed: In Sao Paolo after the PCC gang war a prison riot ewoked from 12-16 May. More than 100 inmates killed. Police forced the inmates to give up the riot also with missiles. There were also 38 prisoners killed on transport bus right before the gang war. 39 prison officers and policemen also died during the biggest prison riot of the history.

Tagged for cleanup[edit]

I have flagged this article for cleanup. The article appears to present an academic argument about the causes of prison riots without clearly labeling it as such or discussing the subject itself.

I've removed the bulk of the essay which, as noted above, wasn't as much about prison riots in and of themselves, but the prison conditions. aprock (talk) 22:26, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Lists Notable Riots & Fictional Riots[edit]

I have reverted the edits by 24.247.161.226 where they have deleted the two lists of riots. Before such a deletion occurred it would be preferable for a discussion to take place.Xiaan77 (talk) 10:20, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Authoritarian Bias[edit]

Prisons, even recently, have often been found to be law-breaking and any prisoner subject to a great ammount human rights abuse should take a stand if they must.

It's simply historical that prison keepers have often been found to be maniacs - and in many cases - a clear case of being torture chambers or equivalent (which is supposed to be illegal).

As usual Wikipedia has taken the side of "the authorities" on the subject, thus offering a completely biased definition of what a thing is, has falsified historical record, and will delete anything they don't like (anything that smacks of punishing authorities for theft and corruption).

Obviously an article can say briefly what a riot entails (about anything), then cite history as it happened. Both sides of the story. Please.

Fact is some riots happened for the wrong reasons. But there are many riots that happend because authorities were corrupt and cruel far beyond their right to be.

Defining it as "illegal in any way" and having people delete objections is simply corrupt government editing false encyclopedia articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.209.222.174 (talk) 19:55, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree in that I find it strange to categorize gang murders in prisons, as well as revolutions in prisons such as the New Castle Correctional Facility Riot, Kengir uprising as both prison riots. (The actual Kengir uprising wasn't called a riot, but has the false impression as one, and the incautious reader will assume "riot" or "uprising" implies it was just another unjustified attack by inhumane prisoners.) 135.0.167.2 (talk) 11:27, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of References[edit]

Although I see a number of references at the bottom, the individual uprisings have not been footnoted making it very difficult to verify anything about each. This article could use more references. I have a feeling there is plenty of material out there. --David Tornheim (talk) 06:41, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I made this edit. More like it would help readers find the relevant information. --David Tornheim (talk) 06:49, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sortable wikitable?[edit]

Wouldn't a sortable wikitable work better for the List of notable prison riots? So that readers could sort them from deadliest to non-deadliest. I think it would also look more clean and professional. Such as in List of serial killers by number of victims and List of epidemics. On top it could be divided in sections, for instance:

| Death toll | Location | Date | Event | Notes | Ref.

Anyone agree? Aquatic Ambiance (talk) 13:22, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was bold and already did it myself. Looks better now imo. Aquatic Ambiance (talk) 09:12, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
