"The notion of the rulers receiving the power not from God or via inheritance, but from (the representatives of) the people was a notion that was not very common at the time" Wasn't that actually a common notio in early Medieval period, which was when the whole ritual originates? Early Medieval kingdoms were directly derived from tribal entities, with rulers being chiefs of their tribe, and thus representing their people (even though that was more often than not hereditary). The whole "divine right" thing only started when Charlemagne claimed the Roman Imperial title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4CA0:0:F240:E987:7889:B22C:677A (talk) 08:29, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
