Illustration[edit]

At the moment this article doesn't have a picture of the bus station - is there a fair use or unrestricted one available or shall I go up to town and take one? (hoping that that doesn't in iteself make it OR!) --RedHillian 15:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eh. There doesn't seem to be one in wikicommons. I'll see what I can do. --RedHillian 15:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have another look. I've used a CC-licensed image from Flickr. Longwayround 16:05, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. It's got the curves, and the size of the thing in it, I couldn't have got a better one by a long shot--RedHillian 16:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Subways[edit]

Okay, where's the third one? I know there's one through the Guild Hall and one that leads to the entrance of the St. John's Centre. Longwayround 16:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At the opposite end to the Guild hall - it leads out under the bus apron towards the NotrwichUnion/Loans.co.uk carpark, at least it used to, there's a possibility it's been filled in/closed - I haven't been to the bus station in about three years, apart from to park on it. A field trip may be in order. --RedHillian 17:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The third goes from the opposite end of the station to the Guild hall one and heads to near the holiday Inn Prestonmag (talk) 20:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, yes. That's what I said. A year and a half ago. --RedHillian (talk) 16:43, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry about that. Must look ahead before editing. Prestonmag (talk) 22:20, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biggest in Europe?[edit]

I'm sure I once heard it is the biggest bus station in Europe. Can anyone confirm/deny? Sidefall (talk) 12:25, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged this claim as citation needed in February 2007. I have yet to see any evidence of this. Longwayround (talk) 14:20, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I recall from my youth that it was said to be the largest when it was built, and on the internet there are various claims of it being either the largest or the second largest, but none seem to be reliable sources. It would be good if someone could settle this once and for all. --Dr Greg (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't take very long to find two articles from the LEP: [1] and [2] which come down on opposite sides of the debate. ISTR an article several years ago about a larger (much larger) bus station in Turkey, but on the Asian side of the fault line, making which continent it was in debatable (Turkey is regarded as European politically). I can't track down a source for that now and I suspect I may well have difficulty since it was probably at least a decade ago. CrispMuncher (talk) 20:34, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've found a new source: English Heritage's listed building entry. Here it states it was the largest in Europe when it opened, but is now second largest behind the bus station at the Kamppi Centre, Helsinki, Finland, since 2005. However, I haven't been able to find any confirmation of this from another source. Several sources claim Kamppi to the be largest underground bus station in Europe, rather than largest overall. Another document says Kampii has 52 bus stands (compared with Preston's 80), and is similar in size to the 57-stand Buchanan bus station in Glasgow. So I'm reluctant to add this to the article, yet, without further clarification. -- Dr Greg  talk  16:51, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership[edit]

Does anyone have any source for the supposed change in ownership? It had always been a council owned facility (not owned by Preston Bus) so I fail to see how the Stagecoach takeover would have affected this. CrispMuncher (talk) 20:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm snipping that paragraph now - on re-reading it I should have been more aggressive in the first place. The only analysis covers the sale of Preston Bus which is nothing to do with the bus station. CrispMuncher (talk) 17:20, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed heading 'Future Use' to 'Refurbishment'[edit]

In my edit of 13 February 2020 I have renamed the section 'Future Use' to 'Refurbishment'. I believe this is more appropriate given the content solely describes the refurbishment project, and that the project has been completed (i.e. no longer in the future) and the bus station reopened.
