There is also a tributary of the Cagayan river also called Pinacanauan between Cabagan and San Pablo, Isabela, see [[1]], another one in Tumauini Isabela, which has its own article in Cebuano Wikipedia (see also [[2]] and in Ilagan, see ([[3]]). Borgenland (talk) 07:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Borgenland on Wikimedia Commons, disambiguation is certainly needed as all of those rivers and tributaries are in scope, and Commons typically does not follow notability rules in geographic features. But here on enwiki, are those two tributaries notable enough to warrant own articles? If those two are not notable enough in independent reliable sources, then they cannot be created and this article will remain not disambiguated. Borgenland: While establishing whether the other tributaries are notable, I suggest leaving a disambiguation hatnote on the existing article. Borgenland: On an additional note, I'm convinced there are more sources for the various tributaries than are on the page. (Two refs isn't much, after all.) Most likely this will take the form of published academic studies (water quality, fauna, etc, which mention the tribuatary and its location), or publications by local arms of the DENR (possibly the Environmental Management Bureau or the Municipal or Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices.) The problem I see so far is in figuring which tributary is which, because they use the same name. (For example, is the tributary in this page the same as the "Pinacanauan de San Pablo" in Paguigan, Geraldine & Siriban, Jailaine & Morillo, Leonore & Subilla, Melanie & Ramos, Myrna. (2020). Status of the Pinacanauan de San Pablo River, Isabela, Philippines For Water Resources Management. Test Engineering and Management. 83. 12519-12530. ?) @Borgenland@Chieharumachi the onus now is how will the another Pinacanauan River be disambiguated. By town or by province? If by province, it is better. This article will move to Pinacanauan River (Cagayan), and the one in San Pablo-Cabagan twin towns will go by the title "Pinacanauan River (Isabela)". The one in Tumauini can either be Pinacanauan de Tumauini River or Tumauini River (the latter if we will use Google Maps as the basis, though sources may need to be considered as per WP:RS and WP:COMMONNAME interaction). Going by town disambiguation may be more problematic, as two of the rivers pass through multiple municipalities (the Cagayanon Pinacanauan river and the Isabelanon Pinacanauan river). The Tumauini one is entirely located in Tumauini. I will immediately disambiguate the Wikimedia Commons category of the Cagayanon Pinacanauan River if the decision is finalized here. Commons does not need to follow "main topic" principle here in using plain names, and images of any objects like rivers are OK as long as those are educational in scope and are usable for commercial purposes (commercial-type CC or PD licensing are the only licensed permitted there, anything non-commercial is forbidden). So even if the Wikipedia articles of two other rivers are absent, their Commons categories can be created if there are already existing commercially-licensed images of both rivers on the repository site. Just raising a concern, are we absolutely sure the three were not once part of an interconnected system? As for disambiguation, I think they can be disambiguated by Municipality with the criteria for municipality being (Main) Whether there is a town which is culturally or economically associated with the river (secondary) Whether a large proportion of the waterway is in a particular municipality (tertiary) where the mouth is; and (quinary) where the headwaters are. - Chieharumachi (talk) 01:02, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
