Untitled[edit]

Pierlucio Tinazzi should definitely have one or more pictures of him posted in the article. If anyone from the family or his friends happens to read this, please consider uploading photos so that he is properly remembered. Great man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.254.61.55 (talk) 22:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed[edit]

This article in Columbia Journalism Review - by the guy who wrote the first story about Tinazzi's role in the disaster - says that he got the story completely wrong, that he conflated Tinazzi with another biker who did save people, that the French judicial investigation "debunked" the story in 2005. He does emphasize that Tinazzi "was selfless" and "could have turned back", but also that the evidence uncovered by the judicial inquiry makes it clear that that Tinazzi "couldn't have saved anyone".

So. How do we integrate this uncomfortable revelation into the article? DS (talk) 16:47, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!
The first question probably is: Has this person ever been wp-notable? AFAICS there were just a few news articles about him. Unless the number of large newspapers writing about Tinazzi increases in the wp article, I doubt the wp notability. -- seth (talk) 19:52, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's an additional review today at the NYT. There's no question he is notable. Yes, the truth is far different than the legend, but that legend itself is the story. We only need to rewrite the article to accurately explain what happened, and what the public thought happened, and what the impact of that exaggerated tale was. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:51, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely, we should change the article. At the very least, insert some qualifiers in the fictional parts, such as "Several people said..." or "it was reported that...". Maybe there should be a section about the controversy.Sbunny8 (talk) 17:23, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It seems the story is the legend that developed in contrast to what happened. The actual events for Tinazzi are not that notable. The spread of a heartwarming story before the internet and how the original author researched it is notable. Fettlemap (talk) 04:27, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism?[edit]

A chunk of the article appears to be lifted word-for-word from the https://www.cjr.org/first_person/tinazzi-motorcycle-mont-blanc-tunnel-fire-rescue.php article.

Specifically: ″However, a small Italian crew was able to get quite close to the fire from the other side. They saved several people, ferrying them out to the Italian portal." and "The Italians were assisted by a French motorcycle security guard named Patrick Devouassoux, who happened to be on the Italian side when the fire broke out. So there was a “motorcycle guy” who died in the fire, and a “motorcycle guy” who rescued several people; they just weren’t the same person. "

Surely this could have been paraphrased instead of copy and pasted. 2604:3D09:97F:F946:5CEE:B818:B678:B04B (talk) 03:38, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just chopped it all down to a few sentences. The whole thing needs to be rewritten anyway. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
