Year of birth[edit]

The article body gives 1927; the lead and infobox 1930. Given he was first married in 1947, to Jane Arden, the year of 1927 seemed more likely; the Guardian states his parents were Louis Saville [formerly Saffer] and Sadie, née Tanenberg. There are no matching Philip Saville births, but there is the December 1927 birth registered at Marylebone of a Philip Saffer, mother Tannenberg. Evidently then 1927 is the correct birth year, and the 1930 birth year, which seems uniform across obituaries, was his "showbiz" birth year (it not being uncommon to shave a few years off). EDIT: The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry- https://www.oxforddnb.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/9780198614128.001.0001/odnb-9780198614128-e-112120 - gives 1927, which is definitive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.165.191 (talk) 22:46, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
