The only ref found to date of military service of Mecom is in his obituary, which says "Army veteran of World War I". There are no other mentions of military service found as of yet in NewspaperArchive, Fold3, Newspapers.com, and Google Books. These online databases include multiple resources from the World War I era. Accordingly, "Category:United States Army personnel" is removed from the article until better sourcing is found. Semper Fi!
