Charles James[edit]

Just a note for people making good faith edits that Daniel Day-Lewis will be playing Charles James: that is not confirmed. I thought it was but after a lot of Googling was not able to find a single reliable source that confirms this, only speculation. Even though that is the logical role he would play and there is speculation of it, we cannot include it in the article until it's confirmed. So please wait for a reliable source to report this, then come back with that source to update the article. Isenta (talk) 13:33, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Was on the fence initially, but I agree with you now. It is best, for consistency across all upcoming film articles, to avoid declaration of actors' characters until there's sufficient proof. Case in point: Some film/awards blogs had Dianna Agron listed as the lead actress for Novitiate (film) because her name was first on the IMDb credits. But once the film premiered at Sundance, critics' reviews indicated it was Margaret Qualley. So, even though Charles James is probably DDL's character's name, what IF it's actually a fictionalized account to the point where DDL's character is a fictional figure representing or paralleling Charles James? We won't know until further notice. And thus far, most articles I've discovered that mention DDL as Charles James actually reference this Wiki article's own misinformation.--Cinemaniac⁸⁶_{Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire} 01:22, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Day-Lewis's Retirement Announcement.[edit]

This announcement does not belong in this article for several reasons. First and foremost, he is still a living person. Therefore, we cannot conclude that this is his "final" performance until after he dies. Until then, there's still the plausible potential that some director (Paul Thomas Anderson or whomever) will coax him out of retirement for one final role. It's happened with other actors and actresses after they've allegedly retired. Directors, too, for that matter. So since we cannot conclusively prove this is his final performance, we shouldn't state this in this article.

Secondly, this article is about the FILM. Not the actor. The retirement announcement sans the "final film" aspect becomes irrelevant to this film, and thus only belongs on DDL's own article at best.--Cinemaniac⁸⁶_{Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire} 00:47, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declaring that it is DDL's final film is indeed premature, but the announcement of his retirement is worth reporting, as long as that's all we report it as. It also seems relevant, therefore, that DDL intends this to be his final film, no? Popcornduff (talk) 02:59, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Film's financial status[edit]

I just hope that regardless of all the awards and critical praise heaped on this film, it shouldn't overshadow the fact that, at the current time, the film IS a "box office bomb" and that fact needs to be stated in the entry/article - - - otherwise, the entry/article is not objective, neutral, or factual.

Maybe "box office bomb" should not be added at this time, but definitely once the film has been pulled from the movie theater circuit. (I don't foresee the movie recovering anything near its budget and other costs.) 2600:8800:786:A300:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 23:00, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Reference" 24[edit]

Just clicked on the link for Reference #24 to read the source about what it says about Phantom Thread.

Imagine my surprise when, after reading the article three times, I found absolutely no mention of, nor reference to, Phantom Thread ! ! !

I did this when I read what Phantom Thread had supposedly made at the box office by the very day that I posted my above comment (Jan. 19, 2018). I checked because at the time, and for several days after, the Infobox showed a box office of $1.1 million, not "$2.8 million," as the total [BTW, Jan. 19 is just over three weeks from the Dec. 25 general release date and more than ample enough time for the Infobox box office amount to be updated.]

As such, I question the inclusion of Reference 24 and challenge the box office amount listed in the sentence that it is the inline citation for.

Music for the soundtrack[edit]
