Other individuals named Petra Mayer in Wikidata[edit]

When editing the authority data / wikidata, note that Petra Mayer (Q95673052 / GND ID 1058326821) the German author of Zwischen unsicherem Wissen und sicherem Unwissen and Petra Mayer (Q2080259) the German winegrower are not the same individuals as Petra Mayer the American journalist. I've looked, and it doesn't appear that the subject of this article, Petra Mayer the American journalist, currently appears in Wikidata, VIAF, or other authority data sources. —RP88 (talk) 00:17, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

hey there, thanks for this. I made a starter entry for her at Wikidata and she's Q109591467. I'm not sure how to do the linking up on this end. Jessamyn (talk) 00:41, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jessamyn: Thanks for creating Q109591467, that's a good idea. I noticed you re-added the {{Authority control}} template to the main article, but it's not going to work unless this Petra Mayer has an authority control record at one of the supported catalogue systems. You can see the list at Template:Authority control. Do you know if she does appear in one of the supported catalogue systems, if so, either you or I can add the relevant ID to the wikidata item you created to make the Authority Control template work. —RP88 (talk) 00:57, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RP88: Oh good to know, thank you. I've always built it in to my biography templates but have never been sure exactly how it works. I do not think she's in VIAF or other authority sources that I know of. So is it worth removing then? Or leaving in case she winds up there eventually? Jessamyn (talk) 01:04, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it because it was picking up a pre-existing, but incorrect, Petra Mayer record in wikidata. Now that you've created a wikidata entry for her at Q109591467, that no longer appears to be the case. It doesn't seem to hurt, and as you suggest, someone might eventually add an authority control record identifier to your new wikidata record in which case the template should auto-populate. —RP88 (talk) 01:16, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

Recently I've seen a few editors add that Mayer was born on November 30, 1974. While researching to write the article, no reliable source mentioned her date of birth, only her age at death, which was used to determine an approximate year (1974/1975). One of the editors presented a source for the day, but I reverted it for being unreliable. I'm opening this thread to try and solve this issue, as to whether there is a reliable source that confirms her date of birth as being November 30, 1974 or not. Thanks. @Isabelle Belato: I looked just now, but I was not able to find a reliable source for her date of birth. The best I can find is her tweet on November 30, 2019, where she says "It's my birthday," so I suppose the date of November 30, 1974 is plausible. —RP88 (talk) 02:37, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply, RP88. I believe this should be a good enough source for the lede, per WP:ABOUTSELF. I will add this to the article, but anyone who believes a stronger/better source should be used instead is free to revert me. Isabelle 🔔 02:45, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
