Place of birth

I have my doubts about this entry as all previous indications are that Murrell is from Norfolk, Norwich to be exact. This current entry has appeared with citation needed about his early life just when media in Scotland is asking who he is. LondonKillie (talk) 10:40, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

His birth details are accessible via ScotlandsPeople. I didn't pay for an actual certificate, but you can see his full name/date of birth.

Thanks for that advice. Searching the marriage records on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ I see his name is MURRELL, PETER TIERNEY. So that should help with any other records searches to confirm we've got the right one. Repeated Undoing of edits

I'm confused as to why DeFacto continually reverts to old versions, undoing my and other people's edits, in particular where Peter Murrell's middle name is concerned.

In Scotland the main source of definitive information on Birth Deaths and Marriages are the registers of Scotland, access to which is through Scotland's people. There the registration of his birth can plainly be seen as Peter _Tierney_ Murrell, Edinburgh Dec 1964. There can be no more authoritative source.

Why is this seen as less authoritative than, say, the Scotsman newspaper or similar?

It feels like there is an continuing attempt to reduce the information on this page as many other pieces of information have been removed over time.

Just FYI - The Electoral Commission used to have "Mr Peter Tierney Murrell" down as second officer of the SNP (obviously that's now changed) here. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:03, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

You are correct, Tim O'Doherty. A Google search for that shows his full name on the result for the Electoral Commission although the cache doesn't work.

Disregarding that, I've found this entry for the European Election 2014 when all of the UK Election Agents were listed for the Scotland. https://www.orkney.gov.uk/Files/Council/Elections/European_elections_2014/PUBLIC_Notice_of_Election_Agents_GD_240414.pdf

You can see that Mary Pitcaithly who was election Regional Returning Officer for Scotland gave Murrell's middle name as Tierney, and his address as SNP party HQ at Gordon Lamb House.
