Actually, a person becomes a Christian because they have trusted Jesus. Not because they read the bible. Not because they learned about the gospel. Only upon a complete trust in Jesus (also called surrendering one's life or submission of themselves to God) which shows itself by a complete change of life. Reading the bible --- anyone can do that. Studying the bible? Men have done that and still not been Christian. Learning about the gospel? How many in the world today can say that they have --- and yet still say their lost?

Your question (albeit very old at this point) was good, and I felt you needed an honest answer. Jesus does say that many will come to him and say "Lord, Lord..." -- this speaks to the fact that the ones saying this..... actually spent time in church, or at least professing him somehow. Jesus answer to them is profound: I never knew you. For all their knowledge, which isn't a bad thing, there was nothing that connected the line between them and him.

Excellent point. If you weren't an evangelical Christian and were reading this article, you would think Washer was a Buddhist or something else before college, and then became a Christian in college. Washer's parents were Christian, as were most people in his community where he grew up, and Washer attended Christian churches beforehand, but had a born-again experience in college. I clarified the point and added a link to the born-again article in the sentence. Is Paul Washer part of the Southern Baptist Convention?[edit]

Predestination[edit]

I add the information about teaching predestination because this doctrine shows how God's salvation is understood, a certainly important point of belief. Notability questioned[edit]

Does the YouTube video and it's views really matter?[edit]
