Law enforcement by country[edit]

It's one of those questions that is difficult to answer definitively. Palestine was a League of Nations mandate. The article states that "mandates were seen as de facto colonies of the empires of the victor nations." The exact wording is convoluted in that Palestine was in a group of mandates what was considered to "...have reached a stage of development where their existence as independent nations can be provisionally recognized subject to the rendering of administrative advice and assistance by a Mandatory until such time as they are able to stand alone. The wishes of these communities must be a principal consideration in the selection of the Mandatory." All of its seems very provisional and undetermined. Personally, I would call it a "territory" rather than a "country" sort of similar to the current classification of the Palestinian territories. --Abnn 01:06, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Digging through the category hierarchy I now see that there is a Category:Countries by status, and then within that there is a Category:Special_territories, and within that is a Category:League of Nations Mandates. Thus Wikipedia classifies them as countries but of a special territorial status. --Abnn 01:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Provenance[edit]

I've heard that many of the original members of the PPF had served with the Black and Tans and Auxiliary Division in Ireland. Anyone know more?
