Screenshot in production section[edit]
On November 9, 2014, a screenshot that showed the gangplank of the ship was added and was later deleted after a FfD, Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2014 December 8#File:Screen shot Pacific Liner 1939.png, on December 16, 2014 failing WP:NFCC#8. On December 17, 2014, File:Screen shot Pacific Liner.png, was added to the article and less than three hours later and my reversion was reverted without an explanation. I reverted the image in that it too fails both WP:NFCC#1, in that the edit summary of "Besides a full-scale sound stage set, a large-scale ship model was also used in Pacific Liner." and can replace the image, and fails WP:NFCC#8, in that the image does not aid in the understanding of the article and its removal is not detrimental to the understanding of the article. I think image is even less effective in providing information than the last image in that all of the information in about the sets are the interior sets and the gangplank at least showed a set. Per WP:BRD, now that the discussion has been started I am going to remove the image, unless a consensus is found here that it passes WP:NFCC. Aspects (talk) 06:43, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- The last image was not acceptable because it did not show the entire ship which this image does. I do think that the reversions that have been made are detrimental to the article's development. See The Ghost Ship for an example of the images that illustrate that article which uses the same set that was constructed for Pacific Liner. BTW, here's a suggestion: what would satisfy the need for an illustration that could be used? a more fulsome caption? a different image? FWiW Bzuk (talk) 12:48, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- You state that the screenshot removals are detrimental to the "development" of the article, when the standard for WP:NFCC is if the removals are detrimental to the reader's understanding of the article and you have not shown this to be the case. You seem to be coming from a point where you think the article needs an image and you are trying numerous different images to see if they pass WP:NFCC, when you should be coming from a point that if something has the sourced critical commentary, as explained at WP:FILMNFI, and not having an image would be detrimental to the understanding of the article, then it should be added to the article. The fact that you have added three different images to the article shows would lead me to believe they are being used for decorative purposes. File:Screen shot Disease onboard.png is actually the worst of the images from a WP:NFCC perspective since it is in the plot section to show what happens in the movie. The Ghost Ship is not a relevant example because the screenshots being used there are in the public domain and not subject to WP:NFCC. Aspects (talk) 04:04, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Image again contested[edit]
The image is not for "decorative purposes" but illustrates a key plot point in the story. The engine stokers are susceptible to the disease on the ship because the cholera is spread by human touch. The image of the leader of the engine crew touching a sick stoker essentially has caused him to be infected as well. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 01:30, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
