Pablo Escobar's body exhumed

today november 8, 2006 two days after his mother's death, pablo escobar's body was exhumed in order to prove whether or not it is him and also to prove the paternity of a boy who claims to be his son

i saw this on the news today on tv and i also read an article but it is in spanish here is the link anyway http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/386409.html

Castano and the Pepes

It should be mentioned that los Pepes were mainly organized by the castano brothers (vicente, fidel, carlos). Especially because they later got so much political and military influence in Colombia. I don´t write it myself, because i´m not a good english speaker, and wikipedia surely doesn´t needs bad grammar and spelling in its articles.

== Little Leage vs. little league ==los pepes is a terrorist band of US forces and the moncado and galeno families bank rolled by the Cali carttel Just a small correction to the article: Pablo Escobar sponsored little league soccer teams and built little league soccer stadiums not little league baseball

I'm not sure if he did both, personally...but I would agree that he did sponsor little league soccer teams (and the Atlético Nacional of Medellín at some point as well, I think), because for the most part, baseball's only significant as a sport in the northern part of Colombia, near the coastline. Juancarlos2004 18:19, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

i removed the link to the wikipedia little leage article since in the context of this article little leage soccer does not have a link to the little leage (baseball) organization. i think the term makes sense, but since it is not part of the baseball USA based organization, in my opinion, the link may be confusing.uri budnik 06:42, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

i see that on a later edit, someone changed little league again to link to baseball's little league article. i am beggining to think that maybe this should be reffered to as pewee soccer. this term denotes that it is for young people and has no link to the baseball organization. i suspect that otherwise people will keep adding the link to the article on baseball's little league. uri budnik 07:12, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

operative vs operator

i changed operative back to operator. members of commando units like navy seals or delta force refer to themselves as operators so this term seems more appropriate. uri budnik 07:12, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

I think you guys are right, perhaps the phrase "little league" should be removed, and something like "youth soccer" can be used to replace it.

Changes to account of death and involvement of US with Los Pepes

I changed the account of his death around because it was not totally accurate or very clear. I also changed some things because: 1) Search Bloc was created before his escape in 1992 and was the force pursuing him in the First Cocaine War. 2) There is no evidence that any US personnel were involved with Los Pepes, what is in question is to what extent Search Bloc was. 3) Some other stuff was wrong, not totally clear, or worded awkwardly. 4) I added a link to SEAL Team Six for obvious reasons. 5) It is named "Search Bloc," not "Search Block".

I will add a new heading soon concerning the North American role and war against Escobar. It is something that I feel is left out of this entry. --Security Geek 16:21, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Missing important facts

Did anyone mentioned about Pablo’s Cousin? That he was given a .U.S. Passport but later the embassy denied it? His beginnings when he went a lot to Peru and Ecuador? That he is from the municipality of Envigado? DID YOU PEOPLE EVEN MENTIONED ABUT PABLO’S FAMOUS ESTATE “NAPOLES’ THAT HAD ZOO? THAT STOPED BRIBING THE POLICE AND STARTING KILLING MOST OF THEM YOU PEOPLE DON’T KNOW NOTHING OF HIM!!!! --Elpaisa

if you are knowledgeable on this topic i suggest its more productive to contribute to the article than to simply critize it. Please remember to keep a NPOV and don't be afraid to be bold. uri budnik 06:19, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Please stop the yelling. It hurts me inside.

Date of birth

It seems that the date of birth of Pablo indeed is December 1. Seaching Google images ([1]) revealed this picture of his tombstone where clearly the date of birth is visible. I'll edit the article accordingly. AlexP 16:13, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I heard it was in '92, but I could be mistaken.

'92? are you retarded? he died in '93... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.156.76.184 (talk) 18:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Possible removal of opinionated text.

This is purely a matter of opinion and does not contribute to the article in any way.

"Pablo Escobar was a piece of poop that ruined colombia."

Its located at the end of Early Life. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.140.207.167 (talk) 01:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

Who´s on the pictures?

Did anyone realize, that on this picture "Colombian policemen standing by Pablo Escobar's dead body on roof.", he´s wearing black pants and on the book cover below they´re white??

No, the pictures are from different angles. In the color photo his pants are light blue and his shirt is dark colored. In the black and white photo his pants are light colored and his shirt is dark colored.--FriendlyDalek 03:32, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think the person in the picture is Escobar. Look at [2] at [3]. Behind the agents is a brick wall, how could it be taken from that angle and from that high up? The colors of the shirt and pants are switched. In the photos, the head is on the same side of the picture. I think it is unlikely that the body would have been moved other than when it was taken away. The shirt also looks like it is longsleeved and it is rumpled up near the forearm. Here[4] is the view of the house where he was killed. Look at the placement of the corpses. On Pabloisdead.png, the corpse is in the middle of the roof. On 200740.7.gif the corpse is near a wall. I think this shows there is not sufficent evidence to say that Pabloisdead.png is Pablo Escobar. B3nnic33 18:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Comments on the solidarity of Medellin's citizens towards Pablo

I think a distinction ought to be made here when speaking about Pablo's favor among the citizens of Medellin. While it's true that while Pablo was hero-worshipped by a small portion of the population in his native barrio, he was almost universally reviled by the citizens of Medellin. There's no question he was charitable with the poor, and some may still remember him as a kind of glorified saviour, but this is also the man who declared war on the city of Medellin over the radio. I think the article unduly portrays the people of Medellin as supportive of Escobar. Speaking as someone from 'Medallo' I can say this was not the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.98.234.158 (talkcontribs)

Change Escobar's Occupation

A minor detail but calling Pablo Escobar a drug "dealer" is a little patronizing to the most powerful drug "lord" of all time. I think his occupation should be changed from drug dealer to drug lord, int eh drug lord article he is even listed at the top of the list of the most notorious drug lords. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.201.86.125 (talk) 04:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

silver or lead

Perhaps that is the meaning in Spanish but not in Colombian slang. Plata is money and plomo is bullets simple as that!--F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 22:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC) That would make a lot more sense... thanks for the info. 68.57.157.249 22:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC) Would anyone oppose the using both the littleral and loose translation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.236.177.249 (talk) 01:20, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Pabloescobook.jpg

Image:Pabloescobook.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Plata o Plomo - again

The translation of "Plata o Plomo" should be "money or bullets," not "silver or lead." Though the phrase literally means "silver or lead," "Plata o Plomo" is Colombian slang. The translation "money or bullets" is a close approximation of the phrase's slang meaning. Aside from that, "silver or lead" is awkward and non-sensical in English. Image copyright problem with Image:DASbomb.jpg

The image Image:DASbomb.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

An image used in this article, File:Pablo escobar.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request
