Ghost in the Shell and other Cyberpunk stories[edit]

THis barcode is features several times in teh Ghost in the Shell TV series and subsequent films. Just thought I'd mention it..

Really stacked[edit]

Recently added business card[edit]

The recently added image of a business card, with the caption "PDF417 codes can be placed on business cards." falls under the Wikipedia policy against self-promotion. The caption information does not information to the article that could not simply be replaced with text in the body of the article. And, the image is an editor's business card. Use in U.S. military ID cards?[edit]

The current (October 1993) U.S. Department of Defense form DD 2 ID card (issued to non-active duty personnel; supersed by the smart Common Access Card for active duty in the mid-2000s) carries two barcodes on its reverse, the lower of which appears to be a PDF417. Can anyone confirm that this barcode is indeed a PDF417? The Common Access Card page says the barcode on the front of a CAC is a PDF417. If it can be confirmed that PDF417 is used on the DD 2, it might be worthwhile to state that U.S. military IDs are the most geographically widespread PDF417 implementation, and quite possibly the largest use of this format.Darwinianphysicist (talk) 03:56, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

External links and advertising[edit]

Another vendor link was added today under the guise of a free online generator. An online generator does not add encylopedic content, the site is more about advertising the product than supplying information, so I believe the link (and similar links) should be removed. To be specific, the tec-it and raco links should go. I would also remove the monrovia link. Monrovia often includes good technical information about the bar code, but the information about PDF417 does not go much beyond the current article (it talks about codewords that specify encoding methods). I'd keep the grandzebu link because it offers very detailed information about PDF417. Any objections? Glrx (talk) 16:59, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Format section[edit]

The broken-English bulleted format does not read well. In particular, the section on clusters is almost incomprehensible to someone who hasn't actually read the spec. I rewrote the section in prose format, but someone reverted my changes, citing some minor quibbles as the reason. I left the information on clusters out in my rewrite, because I felt that too much technical information had to be presented in order for it to make sense. The format of the symbol is technical and has a natural sequence: quiet, start, left, data..., right, end, quiet. Describing it in a list is appropriate. Using prose is not required. That the existing section is mostly an outline isn't great. The parts that should be reduced to prose are descriptions about the codewords, clusters, erasure detection, and delta decoding. Without the clusters, line decoding is more difficult. PDF417 can detect erasures unlike some other 2D symbols. Glrx (talk) 20:33, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MicroPDF[edit]
