Millet system[edit]

one of the CUP government's first acts was to "abolish the millet system thereby stressing its commitment to Ottomanism" William Cleveland, History of the Modern Middle East (3rd edition) seems to contradict what this article says? 'the essence of the millet system was not dismantled' is a statement not adequately supported or explained

I guess, the chapter in question was missing the dates for the quotes. As CUP->established 1906, The article is about a concept as old as 1870s. (young ottomans) A) There is a 40 year difference. B) CUP did not abolished the "Greek orthodox church", "Armenian church", "Caliphate", etc... These religious institutions are the essence of each millet's. --TarikAkin (talk) 02:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Resources[edit]

I should really place this under Turkishness, but it does not yet exist under a separate article, so I will place it here:

Please referring to the articles, please inline citations, as explained in WP:CITE, rather than listing them in the References section because that makes it difficult to verify statements. --Adoniscik(t, c) 21:54, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
