Two issues[edit]

  • According to the article the Ottoman fleet, during the siege of Diu (1538), was led by Suleyman I's emissary, a certain Hussein Pasha. According to Turkish chronicles however, the commender of the fleet was Hadım Suleyman Pasha. (There are many sources which confirm this.)

Formal request has been received to merge: Ottoman naval expeditions in the Indian Ocean into Ottoman–Portuguese conflicts (1538–1559); dated: September 2022. Proposer's Rationale: ...they deal in exactly the same subject. The 16th century naval expeditions of the Ottomans Turks into the Indian Ocean were a result of the conflict with the Portuguese there, but the article "Ottoman naval expeditions in the Indian Ocean" seems to be just "Ottoman-Portuguese conflicts (1538-1559)" written from an exclusively Turkish standpoint. Weak Support. These expeditions do tend to be more Ottoman-focused in their writing, but a merger is definitely merited by GenQuest's proposal and details. I personally have a few internal hesitations mostly on POV, but Wareno makes a good point: this is WP:REDUNDANT. Assuming the merger takes place, this is certainly going to need some editing to reflect both Ottoman and Portuguese opinions, but in the end, a merger would reduce redundancy and be a definitive improvement assuming that proper POV copyediting takes place. Singapore[edit]

I do believe that there is a certainty that the fleet of the "Ottoman Turks" reached Melacca, Singapore, and Brunei.

Singapore being the most important sector of their expedition.

Mogul India[edit]

When the Ottoman Turks sent ships into the "Indian Ocean" I am certain that "Mogul India" had closed its ports for these new rivals much evidence could be found in the record of "Kozhikode" port.

Mughal Empire did establish relationship with Portuguese sailors and that both viewed the Ottoman Turk as a threat.
