I expanded this article significantly in the last few days, basically as triage edits to an article about a prominent Virginia politician. Thus, I have not done primary source research into his will, nor that of his father and uncle, nor into the surviving order books of Spotsylvania and Louisa counties nor Fredericksburg. For what it's worth, it shows the unreliability of ancestry.com, which combined the life spans of one of his younger brothers with his prominent son. I was unable to quickly ascertain the genealogical connection to prominent States Rights journalist of that era Andrew Fletcher Crutchfield (1824-1889) of Petersburg, son of merchant Ralph Crutchfield. Also, although Sara Bearss is a decent historian, who may have relied on Virginia tax records instead, my reading of the ancestry.com Spotsylvania slaveholdings in federal censuses indicates he had significantly more than 22 taxable slaves in 1845, 25 in 1850 and 32 at the time of his death.Jweaver28 (talk) 18:57, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
