The German Empire never had orders! It was a union of kingdoms and duchies, each with their own orders.

The link to Orders and Medals of the Kingdom of Prussia and other selected German States is a link to imaginary medals awarded to Napoleonic war-gamers! Any objection to removing it?

Orange sash color[edit]

The article stated previously "It was meant to honour the Queen's descendency from the Dutch family of the princes of Orange and the founder of that dynasty William the Silent, champion of the Protestant cause in Europe." I have removed that, pending provision of a source. It is also in the German version, which does provide a more extensive list of references, but also does not source the statement about the sash color. This English version also says "Queen" but doesn't say which queen. Airbornelawyer 00:34, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caption for Friedrich Wilhelm picture[edit]

The caption under the picture of Kronprinz Friedrich Wilhelm indentifies the large cross he is wearing as that of the Black Eagle order. However, upon closer examination it can be seen that this decoration is actually the Grand Cross of the Pour le Mérite, an extremely rare order awarded only five times (and for which the gold, rhomboid decoration is the breast star). The giveaways are the color and style of the eagles between the arms of the cross, and the bust of Friedrich der Groβe at the center. Also, it was not customary to wear the neck badge of the Order and the sash at the same time, as the sash already bore the badge on a rosette, making the display of the neck decoration redundant (the same is true of most great chivalric orders, i.e. the Garter). Knights of a chapter of the order. In the case of this order, members were generally either certain nobles (such as members of the House of Hohenzollern) who automatically were awarded the order, or others who were inducted into the order and became members of the chapter of the order. Reinstatement of the Order[edit]

On the Official Website of the House of Hohenzollern, there is no mention of a Prinz Peter Eric Albrecht von Preussen. The current head of the House of Hohenzollern is Georg Friedrich, Prince of Prussia. If anyone has the authority to reinstate a dormant order, it would likely Georg Friedrich von Preußen. As I can see, you are an expert on "The House of Hohenzollern" - Georg is actually my cousin - and there are a lot of things which are not on the Web Site preussen.de - It's called privacy, as some House members enjoy privacy - I really don't know why I am even answering your post - I am just baffled on how you folks at wikipedia determine whats true and what not. The order is active as a dynastic order of knighthood and thus not obsolete! For example, Georg Friedrich, Prince of Prussia has been seen wearing this order in Monaco during the Wedding of Albert II, Prince of Monaco, and Charlene Wittstock. See: [1]. Mr. D. E. See here [2] also. It would appear that, at the very least, members of the Prussian Royal family are still receiving the Order of the Black Eagle.
