Marine Captain Nicanor E. Faeldon also did not enter a guilty plea and instead issued the following statement:

NO PLEA BARGAIN

This statement is intended to explain why I refuse to enter into any form of plea bargaining in any of my cases arising from the Oakwood incident.

To begin, I must make it clear that I respect my co-accused, and hold no adverse opinion on their decisions to consider or enter into plea bargains. Their beliefs are their own, as is their right to chart the courses of their own lives.

When I went to Oakwood, four years ago, it was clear to me that in order for me to bring the truth to my countrymen, I could stand to lose my life, my career or everything I hold dear. Standing trial and facing possible conviction for various offenses are natural consequences of my decision to tell the truth. Thus, I hold no rancor for those who must compel me to submit to the legal processes, even as I expect no justice to come out of such processes.

Years later, it is to my sorrow that no significant changes have taken place despite our warnings, our concerns and our acts in Oakwood. The system is as corrupt as ever, the military is now more politicized than ever before and the highest executive in the land holds office in spite of the absence of a clear mandate. Even sadder, our soldiers are still needlessly dying out there.

I have since learned that I must cast my lot with the majority of the Filipino people who, despite the recent electoral exercises, remain outside of the decision making processes exercised by our public officials, and therefore remain powerless. – PILIPINO.ORG was born from this difficult lesson.

With these in mind, I refuse to bargain with the dubious authorities who exercise power without conscience and who are responsible for the ills that I felt compelled to report to my countrymen. At any rate, an agreement of this nature would be a tacit ratification or recognition of Presidential powers that lie uneasily in the wrong hands.

If this refusal to bargain means a prison term or the loss of my life, I am prepared, now, as much as I was four years ago, to pay the price for telling the truth.

The definition states, "The Oakwood Mutiny was a mutiny..." This should be corrected. The case is still undergoing trial as of this date, and therefore the word "alleged" should appear before the word "mutiny."

They did not call themselves Magdalo. That was what the media called them. In their video, they called themselves "Bagong Katipunero"

The word "alleged" has been added before the word "mutiny". "Bagong Katipuneros" has replaced the "Magdalo" label, and a reference to Captain Faeldon's statement has been included. All the given references have been incorporated. Just one stumbling block: the page http://www.pilipino.org.ph/opinion_faeldon4.php, primary source for most of the text moved to the talk page is a copyrighted page. We may not reproduce the content from there verbatim. As a compromise, an external link to that page has been added. It is also used as a primary reference and appears as a footnote. I hope this is satisfactory. Btw: is the article accurate in portraying the sixteen-rayed-sun flag as the actual symbol used by the Bagong Katipuneros?-- • Kurt Guirnela • ‡ Talk 04:16, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Appointment and Presidential pardon[edit]

So, I added these since these are major developments in their struggle and bowing down to PGMA: 17 former members of the Magdalo group were each given a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agent (PDEA) badge and were appointed PDEA agents on May 6, 2008. They were part of the 53 junior officers who were honorably discharged after a plea bargain agreement after 4 years of detention.abs-cbnnews.com, 17 former Magdalo members take oath as PDEA agents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on May 12, 2008 approved the conditional pardon for 9 convicted Magdalo soldiers. On April 8, after plea of guilt, the Makati Regional Trial Court sentenced Gambala and Milo Maestrecampo to reclusion perpetua, while Army Captains Alvin Ebreo, Laurence Louis Somera, Albert Baloloy and John Andres, 1Lt. Florentino Somera, 2Lt. Kristoffer Bryan Yasay and 1Lt. Cleo Dongga were sentenced to prision mayor. I further added the names of 9 released on May 16, major and notable event of this article: Captains Milo Maestrecampo and Gerardo Gambala, Albert Baloloy, John Andres, Alvin Ebreo, Laurence Luis Somera, First Lieutenants Florentino Somera and Cleo Donga-as and Second Lieutenant Bryan Yasay, were all released from detention in Fort Bonifacio on May 16, 2008 by newly-installed Army commander Lt. Gen. I added this, since this article is almost finished with only 6 remaining charged: 11 junior officers, led by Navy Lt. Senior Grade James Layug and Marine Capt. Gary Alejano, on June 10, 2008 altered their pleas to guilty to a general court martial for violations of the Articles of War concerning the Oakwood (now Ascott hotel) mutiny. Accordingly, just 6 officers remain charged before the court martial, including Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, and fugitive Marine Capt.
