Better explanation[edit]

This article is basically now "go to Microsoft web site, punch a couple of words to the search box, and pray to whatever higher powers you believe in". It needs a) to be expanded to cover subject matter in its own words, and b) use appropriate citation form for the referenced technical document. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 19:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've pointed directly to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article to which the article was probably trying to direct you. You might still have to pray to whatever higher powers you believe in that they don't remove the article, move the article, or completely reorganize the structure of the KB so that the URL breaks. Removed citecheck template[edit]

I've removed the citecheck template because there was no discussion on talk about an inappropriate or misleading citation. Please see Wikipedia:Cleanup resources if some other template is needed and post the reasons on this page. Durova 03:41, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Installers[edit]

Many installers still use this format [1]. Everytime when you get an error mesage like this running a windows setup program under Vista x64 or like this under XP x64, the reason is, that you try to start a 16-bit-program. I have Windows XP x64 installed as one of my OSes in multi boot and I still often get this message when trying to run a setup program. --MrBurns (talk) 03:45, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DOS + OS/2 family mode support[edit]

Some programs came as family mode programs and were NE format. These had as a DOS stub actual OS/2 v1 compatible code and so would run under DOS or OS/2. I believe one example was the DOS version of Word 5. Dryeo (talk) 04:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please clarify what do you mean by "family mode" first? 12:18, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
He refers to "bound executables". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.28.199.19 (talk) 09:24, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lxlite support[edit]

The lxlite program, an OS/2 program to compact LX executables is capable of converting OS/2 NE programs to LX and then compressing them. Only works on files with a minimum DOS stub, no family mode. With the LFN bit set though this can be forced as many programs never set the LFN bit and others excepted long file names even though the bit wasn't set. Also no resources such as icons in the file. LXLITE is available on hobbes.nmsu.edu including source code. Dryeo (talk) 04:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
