Plymouth Light Location. Why the Fuss?[edit]

This is exactly analogous to The Graves Light which NRIS locates in Hull, Massachusetts. While Hull is probably the nearest City Hall, The Graves is within the city limits of Boston. (Remember that there are no unincorporated areas in Massachusetts). Therefore, we show The Graves Light in Boston, Suffolk County, not Hull, Plymouth County.

Showing The Graves in a different county from its NRIS listing is surely more significant than correcting this NRIS error, so why the fuss? Plymouth Light is at the end of a peninsula that has its base in Duxbury, but the end of the peninsula is part of Plymouth, not Duxbury, as first User:Duxbury Rural & Hist Soc, a newbie editor, and later User:Clariosophic, a vastly more experienced editor than I, have pointed out.. . . . It should definitely be listed in the proper municipality, even if it's easier to get to from another municipality. What's wrong with saying that it's southeast of Duxbury? I see no good reason to modify a part of the NRIS data that is not erroneous. Nyttend (talk) 13:32, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I'm confused, but the Elkman tool shows "| nearest_city= Duxbury, Massachusetts". That's literally correct if you mean "nearest city hall", but not correct if you mean "located in". If we're going to change from that, isn't it better just to say "Plymouth", rather than "Southeast of Duxbury". I see your line of reasoning as taking us to having The Graves Light as "North of Hull". But maybe I'm missing something?. . . . Jim . . . . The municipality column for this light has been changed to Plymouth, and I support that change. Saying that it's southeast of Duxbury implies that it's near Duxbury, which it is; and I still don't see the benefit of removing this statement, which is quite true. Parking pic of Mayflower II[edit]

I believe this has just been added to the NRHP. There's a whole category on Commons at Commons:Mayflower II (ship, 1956)
