Sharon Ann Lane[edit]

Sharon Ann Lane was the only American woman in the military to be killed in combat in Vietnam when she was struck by shrapnel from a 122mm rocket. From what I've read she received the National Order of Vietnam medal. American military enlisted personnel would receive the Vietnamese Medal of Military Merit when KIA but the medal was restricted to enlisted persons only. As a 1st Lt. Sharon Ann Lane received the National Order of Vietnam medal, although on The Virtual Wall they show her receiving the Military Merit medal instead. She was a nurse, from Canton, Ohio and was only 25 when she died. She also received the Bronze Star with Combat "V" and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry medal, as well as the Purple Heart. 209.77.229.16 (talk) 05:48, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have no information regarding Ms. Lane, but as for it being for enlisted's only, I know of at least one case of an American officer having this award- then Col. Robert H. Barrow, later Commandant of the Marine Corps. cheers, Gecko G (talk) 21:19, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
