possible list[edit]

Might it not make more sense to create another piece entitled inductees to hte Inventos Hall of fame and then organize that list alphabetically with shortcuts to each alphabetic section? Don 02:22, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would be good to add year of induction to each entry, as most WP articles about the inventor that mention NIHF say "... was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2004" Clappingsimon talk 01:41, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Made a separate list article[edit]

I've made the list into its own separate article (List of National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees). It contains the names, birth/death years, notability, year of induction and an external link for each inductee. The list is updated through the 2009 induction class. Why Akron?[edit]

I sort of agree with Fozzy about a separate piece listing inductees. I am an Akron native and I personally think the decision in 1987 to construct the NIHF in Akron, to us represented pride, more than praise, in a Rust Belt city reeling from unemployment and grasping for anyhting positive. Today, its unique architecture blends with the city's resurgence. It will soon become a 5th-8th middle school specializing in science and math. Also, the question of: Why Akron? is a question many have asked, and I interviewed the patent lawyer who is credited with upstaging Philadelphia for it locating in Akron and would really like to help improve the story. The list of inductees should be a separate list and this article should focus on the structure and the history and purpose of the Hall of Fame. As for the "Why Akron" just remember, this is an encyclopedia article, not a magazine essay, so it needs to be presented in an encyclopedic way (in other words, entitling it "why Akron?" is not encyclopedic). The section needs to present sourced facts about the history rather than quotes from an unknown source. Expaining the background of why Akron was chosen is important, but just needs to be written in a different way. Remember, Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral, so this can't be a source of "Akron pride," nor can Wikipedia contain "original research" (basically if it hasn't been published somewhere, it shouldn't be here). --JonRidinger (talk) 22:30, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gone from Akron[edit]

The museum and all of its related facilites are now officially gone from Akron. The museum is re-opening in the patten office, and the storage facilities are moving to Lake township in Stark County, OH. This move comes after $35 million was spent building the facility. It is from being a financial failure. The school plans remain, however, at this point it looks like the school is the new use for the building and it no longer is the Museum, in any way.
