Untitled[edit]

I'm curious, and this is more of a point of interest and discussion then any other. I am curious about the size: only 19 beds. Diseases that relate to contemporary neurologic treatment are quite widespread, like vascular strokes and the like. These effect quite a large swath of the population, so I am wondering if this hospital serves that larger community (in London) or if it is devoted to the less common CNS disorders. It sounds like it is a university-affiliated insitution, with a long history of many neurology luminaries, etc. And so I am wondering how this hospital, over time, may or may not have served the public and it what changing ways?

Suggested Move[edit]

Whilst i appreciate that 'National Hospital for Paralysis and Epilepsy' is the original name for the hospital, for a long time now it has been known as the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. Indeed I had to struggle hard to even locate this article (there is no redirect for the term - please do NOT create a redirect, for now, as that will make any moving of the page harder).

Might I suggest that the article be moved to its current name as that is what most people will seek (its old name certainly does not belong in the category of current london hospitals as it nolonger exists by this name). 'National Hospital for Paralysis and Epilepsy' then should be a redrect. The article should start with a description of what it currently is, followed by the detailed history in its own section. • You're absolutely right, David. Indeed, I was under the impression I'd already done this: I remember coming upon it last year and making a mental note to do the same thing. Must have forgotten, in all the hustle and bustle. I'll move it now, as it's pretty clear the current, long-standing official name is where the article should be. —Encephalon 05:57, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Beds[edit]

I am sorry, but there have got to be more than 19 beds at this hospital ??? Are you sure? Pietro Coen (Hospital Epidemiologist) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pietrocoen (talkcontribs) 16:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right, the Medical Directory for 2006/07 states that the NHNN has 244 beds. The error probably came from a misunderstanding of the hospital's own website, which says there are 19 private beds. The main activity would be in the neurological outpatient clinic, which is the largest in the country, seeing 54,000 patients a year: contrast that with the inpatient side, where there were 4539 elective and 1177 emergency admissions, and the diagnostic departments, which saw 19,000 patients. There were 150 doctors. NRPanikker (talk) 13:47, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
