Financial update needed[edit]

In the History section, the second to last sentence: "Today, the NGL Insurance Group has over $6 Billion of ordinary insurance in force and consolidated statutory assets in excess of $2.5 Billion Dollars."

needs to be changed to:

"NGL’s consolidated assets continue to grow and currently exceed $3.8 billion, an increase of 109% over the last eight years. NGL reported $3.5 billion in consolidated liabilities for 2015."

In the History section, the second to last sentence: "Today, the NGL Insurance Group has over $6 Billion of ordinary insurance in force and consolidated statutory assets in excess of $2.5 Billion Dollars."

needs to be changed to be (edited after editor's suggestion):

"As of 2015, NGL's consolidated assets exceed $3.9 billion, after a 109% increase over the past 8 years, and consolidated liabilities were reported at $3.5 billion."

[1]

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 16:59, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The wording is still rather to close to the original source. Would it be possible to paraphrase it further? Altamel (talk) 05:07, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In the History section, the second to last sentence: "Today, the NGL Insurance Group has over $6 Billion of ordinary insurance in force and consolidated statutory assets in excess of $2.5 Billion Dollars."

needs to be changed to be (edited after editor's 2nd suggestion):

"After an increase of 109% over the past 8 years, NGL's consolidated assets exceeded $3.9 billion and consolidated liabilities were reported at $3.5 billion as of 2015."

Added the text:
As of 2015, NGL held $3.8 billion in total assets and $3.5 billion in liabilities, about twice the level of total assets from 2007.
It's usually best to describe dates specifically instead of in relative terms. As you well know, obscure articles are not frequently updated, so phrases along the lines of "over the past 8 years" will not age well. Altamel (talk) 03:36, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

financial information updates needed[edit]

The infobox's 'revenue' and 'company slogan' section needs to be updated as well:

| company_slogan = It's about people.

| revenue = $1.14 million USD [1] (2015)

REMOVE: | Net Income = 11.2 Million

[2]

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 16:54, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Sarah_Howell90[reply]

Partly done $1.14 million? Somehow that doesn't seem right. According to Wikipedia, NGL had revenues of 612 million in 2010, and such a precipitous drop doesn't make sense. Did you mean billion? I have updated the slogan. Altamel (talk) 04:38, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox's 'revenue' needs to be updated as well, yes user Altamel was correct, thank you:

| revenue = $1.14 Billion USD

REMOVE: | Net Income = 11.2 Million [1]

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updated revenue and net income. Yes, it's unfortunate NGL had a loss this year, but in the interest of our readers we must report it. Altamel (talk) 05:07, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

information updates needed[edit]

An additional paragraph, before the “Today, the NGL Insurance….” And after the “In mid-2009….”, please insert: “On July 31, 2015, NGL acquired the individual life and annuity business of Madison National Life Insurance Company (MNL), also located in Madison, WI. NGL also acquired approximately 280,000 policies, totaling approximately $260 million of reserves as well as MNL’s individual life and annuity administrative operation.”

An additional paragraph, before the “Today, the NGL Insurance….” And after the “In mid-2009….”, please insert (edited after suggestion):

"In July of 2015, NGL acquired Madison National Life Insurance Company (MNL), an individual life and annuity business also located in Madison, WI. The acquisition resulted in NGL gaining approximately 280,000 policies and approximately $260 million of reserves.”

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 16:56, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Like the above edit, this is still worded quite similarly to the original source. Altamel (talk) 05:07, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An additional paragraph, before the “Today, the NGL Insurance….” And after the “In mid-2009….”, please insert (edited after 2nd suggestion, IF not acceptable: would rephrasing the whole paragraph work? I'm having trouble finding ways to write a single sentence that isn't similar to the source):

NGL acquired Madison National Life Insurance Company (MNL) in July of 2015, which is an individual life and annuity business also located in Madison, WI. NGL gained approximately 280,000 policies and $260 million of reserves from the acquisition.”

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 16:09, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is the text I added:
NGL made another acquisition in 2015: the July acquisition of Madison National Life Insurance Company gained 280,000 policies for NGL, with a value estimated at $260 million of reserves.
Learning to paraphrase effectively can be a bit tricky at first, but it comes with practice. Altamel (talk) 03:36, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Naming Change Requested[edit]

In the first sentence; "National Guardian Life (NGL) is an American insurance...", we would like to change to, "National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL)" to maintain our updated branding plan.

Article Title Naming Change Requested[edit]

Similar to the prior naming change, "National Guardian Life" is technically not the proper name of our company. Could we change it to "National Guardian Life Insurance Company" to maintain our branding plan.

Sarah Howell90 (talk) 14:43, 02 November 2016 (UTC)Sarah_Howell90[reply]

Hi there. Renaming an article will require a page move. An article doesn't necessarily have to bear the full company name, so a move may not be required. If you wish to move a page, and you believe that some may disagree with the change, make sure to read Wikipedia:Requested_moves. Regards, VB00 (talk) 16:32, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Headquarters addition requested[edit]

update request[edit]

the last paragraph of the first section needs updates:

NGL is rated A- (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best. [1] NGL provides pre-need (funeral) insurance, final expense life insurance and group market benefits such as vision and dental products.

wanted to remove the year and the listed assets, that is self-promoting?

As of 2017, NGL is rated A- (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best. [2] NGL provides pre-need (funeral) insurance, final expense life insurance and group market benefits such as vision and dental products.

History Update Request[edit]

the history page is too long. The requested replacement follows:

National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) was founded in 1909 under the name The Wisconsin State Life Insurance Company as a stock company in Madison, Wisconsin. In August of 1910 the company changed their name to Guardian Life Insurance Company and a month later the first life insurance policy - policy #1 with a face amount of $5,000 - was sold.[3]

In January of 1920, "National" added to name in response to Germania Life Insurance Company becoming "The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America" in 1918.

In 1936, NGL became a mutual company based on a decision by the Board of Directors and several years later, in 1948, the company reached their first $100 million of insurance force.

In 1999, Settlers Life Insurance Company (Bristol, VA) was purchased by NGL.[4] The combined entity immediately changed its name to Settlers Life Insurance Company and focused sales on primarily final expense insurance.

In mid-2012, NGL entered into an affiliation with Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company (Utica, NY), permitting NGL access to sell in the state of New York. NGL made another acquisition in 2015: the July acquisition individual life and annuity business of Madison National Life Insurance Company. The acquired business consisted of 280,000 policies for NGL, with a value estimated at $260 million of reserves.[5] Most employees associated with the acquired business were offered employment and are located at the NGL office on the West side of Madison.

As of 2016, NGL held over $4 billion in total assets and $3.7 billion in liabilities, about twice the level of assets from 2007.
