Pidgin or creole[edit]

Is this language a pidgin or creole? While these are popularly used synonymously (e.g. Hawaiian English Pidgin, Tok Pisin, they are not the same thing in linguistics. It's clear that this language is not well documented, but I think there should be enough to determine if it's a creole or pidgin. The German version of the article refers to it as a 'non-canonical contact language', while the Afrikaans and Dutch articles label it simply a contact language. This needs to be disambiguated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iank125 (talkcontribs) 17:34, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pidgin. The only German creole (discounting possibilities in eastern Europe such as Halbdeutsch and Yiddish) is Unserdeutsch. — kwami (talk) 11:20, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pidgin status[edit]

  • "is a pidgin language of Namibia"
  • "Language family: German-based pidgin"
  • "while Namibian German often does not adhere to standard German, it is not pidgin"
