Punk[edit]

I've removed the reference to the album being cited as an influence by punks such as Lydon. We hear this all the time, but it won't do here without a citation. I doubt that even Lydon has ever referred specifically to this album. He's mentioned his --feline1 09:03, 27 September 2006 (UTC)liking for Hammill in interviews, sure, but I think he was referring to a certain attitude rather than specifically to the music. What's more remarkable to me is Hammill's own pioneering use of the word 'punk' on the sleevenotes, and I've added a line on this. --Richardrj ^talk ^email 13:36, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

actually he did specifically refer to it - I believe it was on a Captial Radio broadcast (where Lydon may even have been picking his favourite tunes and played a Hammill track?), and I believe this is cited in print in Jon Savage's "England's Dreaming" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Englands-Dreaming-Jon-Savage/dp/0571227201/sr=8-1/qid=1159280263/ref=sr_1_1/202-3804803-8167844?ie=UTF8&s=books

As for using "punk" - have you read Lester Bangs' "The Screwtape Letters" (in the "Psycotic Reactions and Carburettor Dung" anthology) which attempts to trace the etmyology/priority of usage for the term?

Hmmm, I know I read it *somewhere* though - wonder where it was. Perhaps Lydon's autobiography (which I haven't read) would be the best place to check, though.
