Mistakes and anachronistic features[edit]

This article is far from perfection and has never been evaluated. Starting with the name of the politician that did not reflect the use of name for adoptive children. This isn't how Wikipedia works. The onus is on the person adding material to gain consensus for it if it is reverted.

Anyway, I was going to comment about his middle initial being "T". It is as such in some sources, but others have it as "A" and geneaology websites have it as "B", hence why I excluded it when I started the article.

Also, his name is as it appears in most sources, so I'm not sure what the issue is. If the spelling of the family name has evolved, that is irrelevant to how we write his. Hence why we have Chaim Weizmann and Ezer Weizman – members of the same family, but the spelling of the family name changed between the generations. Number 5 7 17:29, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I do not like very much your own interpretation as how Wikipedia works. I am editing here since 2004, and even if I do not know all, I have a small idea of how it works. But of course, you do not look very open to any kind of discussion. This biography is not only yours.

As far as I know, there are not special issues about the spelling of Gilbertese language. From his birth to his death, there was no significant change of spelling of his names. The only issue is his name (first name is the main name in Gilbertese) and there is no real surname (but in some cases). The « second name » is usually the first name of the father. And it changes at each generation. No family name. Other issue, when you are adopted, you replace your father’s name by the new one. You never keep your old father’s name. Adoption concerns about 25% of the children, and sometimes people could be adopted by 3, 4 or even 5 different fathers or parents, sometimes you are adopted as a grandson not as a son. Other thing: an adoptive father doesn’t not change usually the first name of his adoptive son. He gives him his first name as second name and sometimes he can change the middle name.

Middle name is not very in use. Only literate families used it, it was the situation of his family when he was sent to study at the Primary School of Bairiki after WWII. Ocean Island was the capital of the colony but has been destroyed by Japanese forces. Bairiki was becoming the administration Centre of South Tarawa. It it not 'my interpretation'. I did not write WP:BRD or WP:ONUS. I am also well aware of WP:OWN and welcome improvements/expansions to the article. Regarding the issue of whether to use Gilbertese/I-Kiribati issue, I think the point being made was reasonable given the evidence provided.

Regarding the name, this is how it is written in reliable English sources – these are what matter when determining the article name on en.wiki. If there is an alternative (which can be referenced), this can be mentioned in a footnote or something. Number 5 7 19:53, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
