Untitled[edit]

The links section is great, but it could use a bit of reorganization and here is why:

"Classical Music Library" (Classical.com) is merely a (commericial) streaming music library that also allows limited free downloads and/or pay-per for extra downloads past the limit. This is, in short, a music library for those who merely wish to listen to the (in this case classical, though they also have some "world", jazz and blues) music; whereas sites such as "Media Music Now" are royalty-free music sites that sell music meant for using in "websites", "TV & radio", "podcasts" and so on (as opposed to offering it for listening pleasure), and have no streaming music. These really should be organized into two seperate subsections in the links, as this could prove frustrating and confusing to some users.

Coincidentally, I haven't been through all of the list yet (and do not probably have the time for it, either, at the moment), but both Classical.com and Media Music Now are based in the UK (Classical.com actually states this, and Media Music Now's prices are all in British currency, which, being used only in the U.K., kind of proves quite strongly that it's based there). I've only checked those two links out yet, but is there a slight UK bias here, or is it just my weird sort of luck to have chosen not only two commercial sites out of the list but two commercial sites based in the UK?

Also, given the added importance of the difference between commercial (e.g. for-profit sites that charge money) and non-commercial sites, why on Earth are they mixed in the links? I may later go back and fix some of this, but I would be very happy if someone else would get the ball rolling. ^_^ Runa27 22:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind - did it myself anyway. :P Also, actually labeled the External Links section as such and added details. Almost all the sites are US-based, UK-based or German-based, but there's also at least one from the Middle East and several I couldn't find a location for, so I guess there isn't any particular bias; I just clicked a pair of links that happened to be based in the same country.

Sidenote: awful lot of commercial sites here (especially for royalty-free music... jeez, isn't there simply a links archive or two for this or something somewhere that we could link to? Might be easier, and nicer, and seem less spammish, though I do think the links should be available to illustrate the various forms of royalty-free music, plus, they're useful links anyway, but still - THAT many? Too much!), are there any more (legal) non-commercial sites we could link? Anybody know? For example, public domain music sites would be great - legal, and I'm sure there's a few with free content.
