Name Transliteration - Spelling of Moishe / Moyshe[edit]

See discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Yiddish_literature. Summary is that "Moyshe" is YIVO transliteration, "Moishe" is used for Nadir in Library of Congress.

The article in the Forward cited in the present article spells it Moishe, despite its editorial practice being strictly conformant to the YIVO rules. Also, the one book of Nadir's referenced in the article was also published under the first name, Moishe (as are all his other English translations). Its translator, Harvey Fink, includes:

"A Note on Orthography and Pronunciation:

I have used the Yiddish orthography standardized by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in 1936, except in cases where a different orthography has become accepted through wide usage over the years: the spelling of the name Sholem Aleichem, for example."

There ought not to be any doubt about the correct heading for the article here but apparently there is. If an administrator spots this, it would be very helpful if this could be sorted out once and for all, with the article history and discussion restored to the target Moishe Nadir, and the alternate "Moyshe Nadir" turned back into a referral page. --Futhark|Talk 22:25, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Editing History Notes[edit]

This spelling "Moishe Nadir" is the better concensus spelling.

I now see that it was possible to rename older page. Over the next day, I will attempt to merge the old and new pages, using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Merging#Performing_the_merger, and related manual pages. (Looks like someone has already helped me on this, presumably by using the #REDIRECT PAGENAME approach. Would welcome insights of collaborating editor.
