Nu metal?[edit]

How does this song sound nu metal in the lightest? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.203.99.13 (talk) 06:33, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's because the band is associated with that movement, plus the era in which the band became popular. If this song had been released in 1995, it would have been considered straight-up alternative, no problem. — Confession0791 talk 06:47, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think the issue here is less about the album, but this specific song itself. While some tracks in Anthology are nu metal ("Courage" and "Wish" come to mind), this veers more closer to a pop-punk song. It has a catchy, upbeat sound more akin that of Blink-182 and early Sum 41, and features little-to-no angst lyrics-wise. And angst and a dark sound are some of nu metal's key characteristics.
I have listened to many nu metal bands, such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach etc. I've also listened to some pop punk such as Blink-182, Sum 41, All-American Rejects and Lit, among many others, and I can tell that this song is more closer to pop punk than nu metal. Some of the songs in the album are nu metal, but this particular one is not oje of them.
I agree with all of you that this isn't exactly a textbook example of nu metal. However, no original research is allowed on Wikipedia, and we must provide a source for whatever genre we list a song as. I see that we have a couple of options: 1) delete "nu metal" as the genre and leave the genre field blank; there's no rule that the infobox has to be completely filled in, or 2) find a source that refers to the song as pop punk and change the genre to "pop punk," citing the source. I've done a little research, and I found one not-really-reliable source that calls the song Pop Punk (http://www.chucksconnection.com/video108.html) and one reliable source that refers to the group as pop punk (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/pictures/rolling-stone-readers-choose-the-worst-cover-songs-of-all-time-20110818/6-alien-ant-farm-smooth-criminal-0164546). If someone wants to remove the genre, or change the genre and add one or both of these sources, I won't fight. -Anotheronewiki (talk) 13:29, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so I found these references and I'm planning to add them in, only to be turned down on the spot because I didn't put the link. This is my first time citing a reference, and the citation guite on this wiki is too abstract. - FALLOFALL (talk) 13:29, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So cheat. After the material you are adding, add the URL like this:<ref>http://www.ReliableMusicSource.com</ref>. Then, at the top of the article, add {{barelinks}}. You'll end up with the URL showing as the cite and a template at the top of the article saying it needs to be fixed. A bot will fix it within a day or so.
It's kinda sloppy, but it will work until you get your feet under you. I've found the best way to learn how to cite is to look for similar cites and use them as a guide. - SummerPhDv2.0 04:11, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like the usual genre warriors have been through here.

For whatever reason, we have several banned editors who are obsessed with changing the genres of various songs, albums and bands to match their personal opinions. Wikipedia's standard is to list genres that are supported by reliable sources. If reliable sources do not assign a genre, discussion to reach a consensus on the talk page is another option. The genre warriors, however, either cannot be bothered with all of that or have found that their opinions are contrary to what the sources say. So, they use multiple accounts and IP addresses, lie about sources, accuse experienced editors of being socks of genre warriors, etc.

So here we are. This edit restores "nu metal", as sourced to VH1[1] and "teamrock".[2]

I have no idea what "teamrock" is. I don't know if it is a reliable source. That said, VH1 is unquestionably a reliable source, so nu metal stays. Removing or changing nu metal without prior discussion will be reverted. Addition genres without reliable sources will be reverted.

Maybe you are right and it is "symphonic Viking folk pop". Add that to your blog. Tumblfacegram about it with your friends. Whatever. If you change it from nu metal contrary to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, however, you are wrong.

Incidentally, if you are trying to correct information anywhere on Wikipedia and an editor reverts you, take the issue to the talk page. Snippy edit summaries tend to make it look like you are a genre warrior, vandal, troll or other disruptive editor, often leading to your edits being reverted. - SummerPhDv2.0 17:49, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
