DFL Announced section, any rhyme or reason?[edit]

In the Minnesota gubernatorial election, 2010#Announced 2 section, I don't see any rhyme or reason to how the candidates are listed. Alphabetical? no Height? no I may choose to re-order them, perhaps something like...

The following candidates have announced, and presumably will be seeking the DFL endorsement at the endorsing convention (to be held in Duluth, MN on April 23-24, 2010):

In addition, the following three candidates will be in the primary regardless of the results of April 23-24, 2010 DFL endorsing convention (in Duluth, MN).

Lack of Cohesion in Republican Section[edit]

The section detailing the Republican nomination process leaves much to be desired. Instead of attempting to write a coherent addition to the section every time news came about about the endorsement race, people just seemed to hit the carriage return and add a new line of information, with no apparent regard to the order, relevance, or whether or not it was already covered three paragraphs earlier. I would like to attempt to remedy the situation, and perhaps organize this article into something useful. Brash (talk) 03:22, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DFL Lieutenant Governors[edit]

I have reorganized the DFL lieutenant governor candidates section to try to make it read a little more smoothly. I have included what I think are the two most relevant facts from their resume for each candidate. I think it is important ot have a little info about each since they are not as well known as the candidates themselves. For John Gunyou I have included the fact that he was previously Minnesota finance commissioner under Gov. Arne Carlson, as well as his current job of Minnetonka city manager. Tdfrankland has various versions of finance commissioner info. I would like to hear why. I think that is experience as finance commissioner is the most salient part of his resume. I absolutely concur with Crumley that John Gunyou's experience as Minnesota's finance commissioner under Governor Carlson is relevant. The commissioner position, it seems, was his highest position attained and, being an important role in state government, is relevant to his background as a candidate for lieutenant governor. Announced Candidates[edit]

I believe it would be prudent to edit the listing of candidates to reflect the current state of the race. Right now, it lists a bunch of "announced" candidates as if we're still waiting for people to throw their hats into the ring. Candidate filing, however, has been over and done with since June 1. We need to just list the "announced candidates" as just simply "candidates." I also don't feel like we need all of the candidates who dropped out, switched parties, or were mentioned once in the media as a possible contender. That is information that I believe would be better conveyed in a paragraph or two in each party's candidate section.

I know this is anathema on Wikipedia, but there is such thing as "too much information," as all the useful information gets swallowed up by a bunch of irrelevancies. If there are no objections, I am going to go ahead and try to clean up this out of control candidate section. I'm not going to delete information, just organize it so it's more accessible. After all, we have a primary coming up, and we want to make sure this page is readable for voters seeking information about the race. Brash (talk) 18:02, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Election Over[edit]

With the voting phase of this election wrapping up, we are now moving into the new Minnesota tradition of the recount phase. Because of this, we need to update this article so it has information relevent to this. Presenting vote totals, discarding and/or sorting old, useless data, etc. Hopefully we are up to the task. Deleting Emmer's Headshot[edit]

Someone has deleted the Emmer headshot from this article three times now. While I agree it is inappropriate to simply delete an extremely necessary photograph with no justification and with no replacement, perhaps we should consider other options. While it was very gracious of Jonathunder to provide for us a CC-licensed photo to use, I would argue that it may be more desirable to use an official government portrait for this article. Now, I noticed in the discussion over the deletion of the previous image, the argument was that the photo was a campaign photo that was not explicitly released into the public domain. I do not know which photo it was, but was it this one? Because this is an official government portrait of a state representative, sourced straight from the state legislature's website. I know works of the federal government are permissable to use on Wikipedia because it is in the public domain, but what about works of the state? Anyway, if this photo appears to be acceptable, I would like to suggest we switch to using this one in the article. Brash (talk) 20:38, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
