Untitled[edit]

I was about to WP:PROD this article, then I looked through the edit history and found that someone (in 2006) had changed the name "Toto Laraque" to "Marco Bottura", which sounds more Italian than Haitian. Anyway, Toto Laraque would seem to be a Haitian guitarist of some note, although his website (in French) makes no mention of "mini-jazz". At this point, I am unable to determine whether this is/was an actual genre (notable or not). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:16, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category[edit]

After skimming the article, this music doesn't seem to be a category of "jazz", regardless of it's name. Removed from category.BassHistory (talk) 08:22, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article you were skimming BassHistory, needs a lot of work and verification. Mini-jazz is a combination of Jazz and meriengue-compas which still constitutes it as being in the Jazz category. Savvyjack23 (talk) 18:44, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@User:AllyD and I had first questioned the relevance of this article to the WP:JAZZ project almost five years ago (see discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Jazz/Archives/2010 1#Mini-jazz). The article may, as you've pointed out, need a lot of work and verification, but in almost five years, no one has come along to clarify the relevance of this subject to jazz in general. Regarding the WP:JAZZ banner, I'm removing it again, and I would suggest reading the guidelines (particularly item 3) at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide/WikiProject#Over-tagging (and for that matter, WP:JAZZ's discussion about this). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:42, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification: I am referring to the use of the WP:JAZZ banner on this talk page, not about the removal of Category:Jazz genres from the article itself. Though I would very strongly suggest expanding the jazz-related content (adding sources etc.) before adding it to that category again. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:46, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jazz has influenced almost every style of popular music in one way or another (R&B, Rock, etc.). That doesn't make them sub-categories of jazz. Removing the other stuff now. If someone can make a better argument in the article, then maybe they can go back in.BassHistory (talk) 20:17, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
